What tyres are to get? budget.
#1
Looking at getting tyres for the PPC challenge car.

probably only getting front 2, currently running 185/65/R14 at the moment.

Budget is around £100 mark for both fronts

I'm thinking a lower profile, perhaps 50 profile.

I'm an absoloute novice when it comes to tyres, so i'm looking at aynone who may have a 2nd hand set with decent tread? or know or any cheap'ish factors.

Ebay has a few, but again, brands? besides the well known brands, my knowledge stops.

Any help would be great ThumbsUp

What you looking for in the tyre?

Good wet and dry performance Dunlop Fast responses are rated by Ruan and a few others.

Cheap max dry grip go for spec2s or t1Rs, but dont expect them to last long, and don't expect any grip in the wet.

If you're serious about dry performance and have a bit more moneys to spend, go for something like Yoko Advan Neova's, or if you're very flush A048s or R888s.

Falkens are alright for a budget allrounder in my experience.

I know max (strictlyderv) runs falkens and he only tends to get wheelspin/tyreslip on cold/damp/wet roads. Dry roads they seem to hold pretty well.

Falkens are a strong contender at the moment

If were talking second hand you might be able to get R888s for that money.

First reasonable sized pair i found, will be fine for the 999 challenge day and currently less than £1 a trye. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Toyo-Proxe...3a7f431b3e

Actually this set!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyo-R888-195-...4ac2859149

4 tyres, more tread, no bids and collection from stockley park which is literally a stones throw from my house or even better kim actually works there

Ginge stick to the original tyre size. personally if i was you, id fit 13" wheels. slight increase in acceleration and probably lighter not to mention the fact tyres will start from about £20 new

Wait.....15" tyres on a 14" rim...think there'll be a slight gap. Confused

195 as apposed to 185, as in the tyre is one inch wider across the breadth, not the inner rim,

Also, neil, would that really work?

Yes it would

and the difference between 195 and 185 is not 1 inch.

I'm quite ill and tired, the difference between 195/185 is... 10mm?

Erm, Chris has linked 15" tyres, you want 14" tyres... Yes, the difference in width is 10mm, but they won't fit because they're too big for your wheels...

For excellent wet and dry use Kumho KU31's Had them on my first car and the rocked in both dry and wet. Lasted 2 track days and a fistfull of roadmiles too. Were thrashed daily!

KU31's are pretty good, but really soft and wear damn quickly. Can't fault Rainsport 2's IMO (if you're being picky, the sidewalls are a tad soft)
