ECU's should come with buck/boost converters to run the damn things under low battery situations. If it can crank, I'm sure it can be made so it can shove a few amps into the ECU as well... I've seen many situations where modern cars won't start despite having enough to crank. Give me mech derv any day. My POS VW almost didn't start for the same reason this morning I reckon. It was slow cranking but took 3x as many turns to fire. It was only -2! My 306 managed to fire every time first turn even at -15!

I'm pretty sure it won't allow fuel in until its turning over fast enough (450rpm or something) so its not due to the ECU not having enough voltage afaik, just the fact the starter hasn't got enough power to turn it quick enough.

A diesel will fire from bugger all motoring, the ecu just needs tonnes of power / injector drivers need a wack of power, espicaly on these style ones...
Ive managed to start an escort derv before on a battery so flat i had to pull 2 glow plugs to get it to motor fast enough, let it run on 2 to charge the battery, and put them back in and fire up obviously that was mech injection

Hehe...
The joys of the mechanical stuff. I always think it's good to have one for the day the apocalypse comes. EMP blast, War of the Worlds alien attack... just roll your XUD off and run it on veg oil... sorted
Don't need any electrics hehe.

Hmmm I wiggled the brown relay on mine and it started but it the issue again do may change the battery as its been in the car for a good 3/4 years and it's not a particularly good one so it could be just a power prob not enough getting to all the right components ??

Fooby you can't change a wishbone without getting broken, having a moan and then sittting in your car for 4hours sulking.... Start a project thread, this should be funny!

It's not so much the crank speed or amperage to the ECU, its due to the fact that the fuel pressure doesn't come up enough when its cranking that slow... It needs a certain amount of pressure to start opening the injectors otherwise it grumps and says there's not enough rail pressure... Sadly its one of the first signs of a worn HP pump...

Man, you'd have a right old time with an XUD, if nothing else you really would have no excuse for taking it to a garage - they can be consistently fixed by a monkey with a sledgehammer.

Haven't you replaced that relay yet? One of the easiest/cheapest things to replace, would be my first port of call. I'll take another look at your thread if you dig it out and update it for us, will try to work out what's happening for you.

Not yet lol you've mentioned it to ne many of a time I just wiggled it and boom it was ok unfortunately I replaced everything else before doing that :-( but now wiggling doesn't work so think it's caput :-( what's annoying is it catches then immediately goes back to turning over :-(
