Im 28, and my DT costs £800 with my 24 year old girlfriend (provisional driver) on tpft. My old 1.4 cost me just over £1000 for the same deal. Confused

Im insured with ecar as well, hoping my premiums might drop a bit this year as ill have my first years NCB (kept crashing the 1.4) lol

I was always a named driver when i was with my ex, so didnt have any NCB when we split and i insured the 1.4. Then pranged that a few times, so still didnt earn any NCB, then after the last smash, i got the DT, and found it was £200 cheaper! Ive been driving 6 years now.

that is quite expensive bearing in mind ive insured my 6 for £900 at 21 with 4years no claims and 3 points and 2 non fault accidents.

have you not put two and two together? do you not realise that a beige interior is the best theft deterrent you can get? you could leave it running with the doors wide open over night and would wake up with it still there.

It's usually in the drive which is patrolled by my 7 stone staffie x Mastiff....

Theft proof, thieves get eaten before they get near. I just wish my dog was Thatcham certified lol

Yup! But...

It is insured for 15,000 annual miles, Social, Domestic, Commuting and occasional business use.

So they ripped me off. And that was the cheapest I could find!

I know prices have gone up but christ! 4 years ago I insured my 1.2 Corsa for £1200 the minute I passed, and I'm in a high risk postcode!

I wouldn't put anyone on a provisional on you insurance as they're higher risk- surely that would increase the price?? Definitely add a parent or other family member if you can. My step-dad drove my Corsa once but saved me a couple of hundred quid each year!

Also, I agree with Chris about checking out this website! moneysavingexpert as his tips can help. You can check if your job title is high risk, and they list the best way to search brokers.

Good luck!

Provisional is lower risk Kim. They HAVE to be accompanied by a sensible adult at all times, its people who first pass that are most at risk tbh, taking stupid chances and not knowing cars limits. Smile

I insured my pov spec 1.4 on a provisional for 1500.....it went up to 1800 after I'd passed! Got away with it that year though as they said it wouldn't change....but it went up afterwards when I had 1 yrs ncb.

It really is shocking nowadays... When I insured my first car 6 years ago (shit) at 17 it was £1250 on a 1.8 306 sedan...

I'd hate to be starting out now!

Now paying £750 on the '6 with 3 years (I think) no claims, 3 points and some at fault Saxo bashing

Got my DT when I was 19 in 2010, insurance was £1300~ tpft on a standard one with 2 years ncb but I was down as a named driver as it was too expensive. Changed it last year to me as the main driver, £1100 with both my parents on there and mods declared. Now down to £850 with 3 years ncb and mods.

When I first got it I swapped the insurance over from my 106 NAD to the DT and it was the same price, not sure how though lol NAD's are slow.
