Been told to use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0w40.

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

It should be absolutely fine, but as it's a 0w, you might find it can be a bit rattly on cold starts.

A good 10w-40 is ideal for your engine with that kind of use.

The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Red Line and Millers CFS.

You need an MTF for the gearbox and the best proven options are the Red Line MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80 and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives.

As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell Helix, Millers Trident/EE Nanodrive, Castrol Magnatec, Mobil Super 2000 or Motul 6100

Oil filters from reputable brands are all pretty similar, you should have no issues with them at all. It's only the dirt cheap ones from motor factors and online sellers that you've never heard of are the ones that you need to be wary of.

You need an oil that meets the VW507.00 spec for the Lancer.

They are all good oils, so make your decision based on any brand/price preference you have.

For Greg's GTI6, it all comes down to oil temps. Any idea how hot the oil is getting on track?
