Strange noise

So the 6 is making some strange noises been like it for around a week now. Is it to do with the belt ? Or something else? Thanks guys !

that sounds horrible!
push the clutch down does the noise change?

is the noise left side/ right side/inside the engine/top/bottom?

I was on my own at the time so no one to push the clutch you can hear it as your driving along Sad bloody horrible! Sounds like its coming from The belt left side its bloody loud dont want to Kill it.

dont drive it dont start it!
if it sounds like the belt side get someone to take the covers off and look in there before its to late!

It's hard to tell from my work laptop speakers. What exactly happened when it started making this noise?

Take the aux belt off and see if the noise is still there

Be careful though, if it's the cambelt tensioner then you really don't want to be running the engine... Strip it down and see how the tensioners/pulleys feel.

Thanks for all the response guys! Adam Gonna take it into work Tomorrow and have a good look. It literally drives spot on no difference except that horrible noise! Il let you all know what happens tomorrow Smile

Sounds like a bearing of some sorts (tensioner or maybe gearbox)

im 99% sure thats the aux tensionser listening to it on pc sounds exactly like mine did before it seized and burnt off the aux belt its a common fault

When you live in the country side and have no other way of driving i had to when i got back i noticed it was louder havent touched it since!

yea just be careful if its that when it goes ur aux belt will snap and youll lose the PAS ! and if you're really unlucky could get caught in cam belt

Adam got a 5mile drive tomorrow & hes gonna have a good look he reckons its the aux belt!

yea more than likely prob worth just removing the tensioner and having a spin on it and you'll be able to hear/feel

really common anyway its gone on all of my 306's

So the cause was the aux belt! The tensioners and pulleys had a ridiculous amount of play ! All new parts have been orderered and hopefully fitted tomorrow Smile
