Needs to be in great condition at that price even if it is low mileage.
And I'll guarantee the vanos will be buggered, most of them are, the solenoids twist in the case and score the barrels, then they start to leak fluid and don't work properly. Mucho's money to fix with a vanos refurb.

And the specialist tools required to time up the vanos units are kept mainly at dealers

Vanos seals are a common item to go, i believe BMW don't even sell replacements and advise replacing the whole vanos unit itself.. Guy on eBay canada sells uprated ones though, my bro just bought some for his E46 328i and its perfect now.
