Cheap s16 ECU issues worth a punt?
#1
A family friend has contacted me to say they have an s16 which won't start. They have taken it to a 'specialist' who has said it needs a new ECU and have quoted them £600 odd to sort it out.

Whether this means the ECU is fried or just needs flashing/unlocking or something I don't know.

Has tax and MOT, owned by a couple, completely standard and apparently in good condition (haven't seen any photos or anything though). No idea about panels/interior.

They are going to have it scrapped and said I could have it for about £150, worth it's money in parts easily but I can't break it due to space and it's undriveable at the moment.

Going to do some research tonight as I have no idea about how these work, could you buy a 2nd hand ECU and match it to the immobiliser? Could just be an immobiliser issue?

What's the deal with the transponder? I'm guessing that is linked to the BSI and will also need to come from the donor car?
