Do oil brands differ much in quality? The prices certainly do for the same quantity? What brands do people recommend? (50 10/40)

No thats too thin, 10w40 at the lowest.
IIRC it was 15w40 in the ph.1 manual, the one and only time I bothered to check.

5w40 is fine run mine on 5w50 fully had a big 205L drum knocking about once the rally car was sold lol

Peugeot often sell 20L total quartz 9000 5w40 for about 50 quid. Well they do in Tewkesbury.
It works well, although I'm using Motul Sport now as I get it through work.
