So the weekend came and it was time for the Christmas meet. There had been some debate as to where it would be and it was moved from Cambridge to Milton Keynes to accommodate those further afield who unfortunately didnt turn up. One XUD 1.9 converted 205 and one black rallye. Bates has now sold his astor and gone to the dark side with a mk5 R32 golf and Lu preferred not to drive after her works christmas party and to save putting impending miles on her cambelt which is overdue a change.
The Suffolk contingent arrived at the Furzton Lake Premier Inn which is exactly where we stayed almost 5 years ago to the day. Rooms werent ready so we made our way to the Hungry Horse and also to wait for Orta to turn up. Orta arrived, we had lunch and we looked at what activities we could do. Skiing wasnt for everyone in the group so that was out. Bowling was booked til 10pm but there was minigolf. Thank god for minigolf...
Orta took us in his 2.2 TDCI Mondeo which was a welcome relief having driven the french beasts for a few hours in the morning. We arrived at minigolf and chose the lost forest course which was fantastic. Really well put together up market course. Its just a shame that bates ruined it by venting his lunch at every hole.
We retired back to the hotel to finally check in. This was the mother of all faffs I have ever had to deal with. It took 30 minutes to check in because the woman checked us in without paying and she couldnt charge us without checking us out and in again... which wasnt possible. A truely awful experience. Gamecube followed! Orta may have beaten me...
Having tried to book dinner at the Hungry Horse and finding it was booked we ventured back to to XScape for dinner. Coals was the location of choice and we had some good burgers and steak. Then we moved over to creams for massive deserts. It was a truely huge weekend of eating!
Orta gave us a lift to the hotel and had to dash off to dog-sit. A final few rounds of mario kart before bed!
In the morning it was free breakfast time. Completely average food but what was not average was the drive back! No M or A roads for us. Completely cross country and lots of hooning! One scary lock up moment from the 205 but otherwise safe and responsible!
It was a good meet despite there being very few. The drive was great as was having dinner together. Hope more people can come next year!
