Danny's 205 1.9 GTI.

So I was the one who bought Bengley (Ben)'s White 205 GTI.
It is in good nick generally but the front end needed tightening up so I checked both front wheels for play and found some in both.
The drivers side pinch bolt had stripped its thread and wasn't pinching the ball joint at all, simple fix, replace bolt, jobs a good'un.
Passenger side need a new inner track rod,all done but then realised the top strut mount was creaking and binding a bit so I have those to change yet,but it is a much tighter feel already.
Then came the problem of all that colour coding on the bumpers and arch plastics
[Image: Photo0199.jpg]

Dont think it suited the car at allso took all the plastics off, tried to strip them back but the paint was properly on there so decided to just rub it all down and spray it black.

Found a bit of surface rust behind the front bumper, pics make it look worse, not bad for a twenty something year old car really.

Wire brushed and sanded it back, treated it with kurust and primed and painted it.

Little bit behind the front light/inner wing.

Same treatment.

Then it was time to put all the plastics back on and drool for a little while.

Side skirts will come off if it ever gets painted but are bonded on in places so are staying for a while, not to everybodys taste i'm sure.
Waiting for the dash top to arrive and i'll do a few of the inside.

Yeah I suppose i could take them off to check what damage has been caused by them being stuck on in places, then if it looks a mission to sort out they could go back on to hide the damage until funds are available for painting proper.Needs something doing where the spoiler was on the rear quarter so paint is inevitable at some point.
Still, miles better for the black plastics and the more I look over it,the happier I am with it.It's in better nick than my 306 and is nigh on 10 years older.Big Grin

Thanks for the positive comments so far lads.
Yeah gonna drop it a bit but I don't want epic lows on it TBH. Maybe 30-40mm ish. See how it looks then,I don't really hate the skirts but I don't know if I like them either.
Had the dash top turn up now so I'l get some inside shots up at some point soon.

Looks much better with the black bumpers and trim back on.

I'm not personally keen on the sideskirts, but they might work with the car lowered a bit as it's the arch gap that seems to look at odds with the skirts as much as anything.

If you haven't already done so, I would check that drivers side hub for evidence of ovalling - it's becoming very common unfortunately on 205's these days, usually as a result of the car being driven with the pinch bolt loose (as yours was) for an extended period or having been over-tightened by a ham-fisted chump.

Good news, I don't have to sell up anymore.
It was only to be sold to replace my Wife's 306 that I robbed for parts for my DTurbo
She has now driven it and decided it can stay

Inlove.

Took it for MOT on friday and it failed on:-

No brake lights: Switch failed-New one bought ready for weekend.

No horn: Nick it of Her 306.

Headlight aim too low on pass side. Adjust at re-test.

Tyre tread low on front: Well it will be, wont it! New un's ready to go on.

Sooooo pleased.
Was gonna have to sell it and get her a 307 HDI which she really wanted, much to my protest of of not being a good car at all.

Now I have the best of both worlds, a Stage 2 DTurbo and a 1.9 GTI.
Perv n Derv!

1 years MOT sorted. No advisories. Big Grin

Got new clocks on the way with a working speedo, stereo fitted and working.

Had 3 blokes all waiting for MOTs come up to chat about it and how well it looks, even a bloke with a well nice 2.0 pinto powered mk2 escort.

New clocks fitted, still no speedo or fuel gauge.
Must be cable and sender related.
Not too bothered as old clocks were missing the clear plastic front bit and other bits and the new set match very closely with mileage.
Interior is near mint now apart from a dodgy ashtray and i have sourced the water ingress to be the washers on the sunroof so will replace them and see how I get on.

On a different note, how much will 306 60mm lowering springs lower a 205 by?

Cheers.
Danny.

Dont use the wrong springs whatever you do.

Buy springs designed for the car. Not worth the risk, plus its a sweet car! So do it right for the love of it! Smile
