MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve
#1
Simple - how can this be fixed?

I know only the odd few 306's were fitted with these - are they easily replaceable? It's for a phase 2 DT if it makes any difference?

Cheapest place to get hold of one.

Any extra information on these would be grand!

Work it? Manually move it around? or does it move under brake load?

Yeah ph2s have them.
Simples. Unbolt the arm end from the beam and cover it in some WD40 and work it free and refit. simples. Ive never seen one yet that has been too buggered to not be repairable.

Ok i read this and think you're talking about taking beam apart /facepalm

Is it fairly straight forward when looking at it??

yep. just unbolt one end of it and work it free. Could try a bit of heat on it as well if really needed (although i doubt it) but be careful.
Personally, id just cover it in WD and work it free.

There's a shaft that goes through the spring and then goes through the bit that should move. It's had to explain but you should see the bit that it pivots on and that's the bit to spray with WD

That's the bit you need to free off

yup...happens all the time.

thats one lazy ass MOT tester though...at the pug specialist I used to work for, the MOT tester would just spray it on the ramps and work it free there and then. If no one has weight in the back often then they just seize!

FYI...my ph1 has brake a rear brake compensator

I free them off as long as that's like the only thing it fails on

I just spray with plusgas and hit it with a hammer lol

Can you remove these? Being lowered i dont see the point in it as it will always think i have masses of weight in the back.

Great picture! what way exactly is this moving - stretching or compressing that small spring? soaked it up today and no movement at all Sad

the bit that my finger is pointing at should move towards the spring. i find the best way to move it is mole grips or pry it with a big screw driver

set of grips on it and move it too and fro until free...

altho now probably not main priority!

Doh

yep, the Dturbo still needs sorting as it's for the MOT - only got 2 weeks to correct it for a free re-test.

I'll have another crack today.
