Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

I havnt got an internet connection yet at my barracks. But i want HD.

My gf's barrack had a company called mediaforce come in and install internet into all the rooms, all you have to do is connect the ethernet cable and pay for what speed you want and wether you want 1 hour/1day/1week/1month/1year.

When i get back to my camp ill speak to my SWO and ask if we can get mediaforce in to set up a similiar system, but it could take months and months to sort out and finalise... Also when i get back from afghan i want to get an xbox so i will need a cabled internet source in my room...

I digress...

Basically i want to know the best options for freeview hd or similiar. Ideally id like sky sports and espn too...

Is their a way to "top up" my built in free view?

RE: Freeview HD - C.A.R. - 03-01-2013

I'm confused.

I have a TV with built in Freeview HD, it was an extra £20 more than the regular tv which didn't have freeview HD, just freeview.

For that I think there are about 6 HD channels in total.

I know you have to subscribe to get some of the sports channels, but I have never taken an interest.

Sorry, I wasn't much help was I?!

RE: Freeview HD - Toms306 - 03-01-2013

Is there any point? Honestly we have Freesat HD (like freeview but through an old sky dish) and I can't see the difference on our 42" (I think) TV between HD or regular lol.

RE: Freeview HD - Midnightclub - 03-01-2013

Tom, if you can't tell the difference between SD and HD you must be blind! Or you're still watching the SD channels

This ^

HD is beautiful on our telly, and it's only a 32"!

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

My TV is a LG 32LS3500. Didnt have an option for freeview hd Sad

Tom. Your mad if you cant tell difference!!

RE: Freeview HD - Niall - 03-01-2013

Agreed. 3D Hd is better though. Now just need to wait till they start doing 3D HD porn!!

RE: Freeview HD - Midnightclub - 03-01-2013

Sean, you'd probably be cheapest, getting a freeview HD box.. probably cost you around £100 but for that i'd expect a HDD that you can record onto too Smile

Yup, 1080p on my 42" panasonic plasma is epic Big Grin

And agree with you there niall, 3D HD is epic.. gives you so much more depth!

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

Mines an LED Screen, 32". but ive only got a little room! Also got a yamaha sound bar which i cant wait to plug in and have a go on!

RE: Freeview HD - Toms306 - 03-01-2013

Maybe I just need glasses then lol. Tongue

Oh and yes I was watching the HD channels, I'm not that much of a bell! lol

RE: Freeview HD - Niall - 03-01-2013

Yeah but are you actually watching them on a hd TV set up properly? You can watch hd channels through scart on most of these free view boxes but it won't be hd.

RE: Freeview HD - r3k1355 - 03-01-2013

Do your parents/her parents or her have sky with sports and stuff?

If so then you can use their Sky Go account to get those channels over t'internet for free, from the Sky website.

Sky Go is free for every sky subscriber.

RE: Freeview HD - Ruan - 03-01-2013

You need glasses, Tom...

Also 3D is complete bollocks IMHO...

You either need glasses and you look like f*cking Ray Charles watching the TV - AKA. A KNOB...

Or the glassesless ones which we have a bunch of at work, and all they successfully do to everyone who watches them... Give them a headache...

We DON'T need 3D, it's a fad technology... Stick to making 2D better...

I mean for gods sakes, people still haven't seem to have picked up on Progressive scan vs Interlaced scan yet, we have BARELY gotten Freeview HD rolled out, people don't even know what HD Ready means, they assume component cables = HDz...

RE: Freeview HD - Niall - 03-01-2013

Correct it is a fad but a pretty cool one. Personally though I would rather see HD expanded a lot more before they concentrate on 3d. Mind you, I can barely watch tv at the moment due to my v+ box being fooked. Should get virgin out to look at that really lol

My parents live in australia and hers dont have sky... My grandad does though but he isnt technology wise at all. Would he even have skygo?

RE: Freeview HD - C.A.R. - 03-01-2013

I don't get on with 3d anyhow, it looks worse in most situations and isn't really effective save for a couple of scenes in a movie. I tried playing Call of Duty Black Ops in 3D once, properly difficult. Looked good, but virtually impossible to play!

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

And isnt sky go just for on the go... ie mobile/tablets

Found this on amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007YXUBSW/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=home-theater

Looks ideal. Got builtin wifi and ive got unlimited internet on my mobile so i can use iplayer and 4od etc. Top shout danny!

Is it worth an extra 60quid for 1tb hdd?

RE: Freeview HD - r3k1355 - 03-01-2013

Every sky customer has sky go, if you grandad isn't tech savvy he probs doesn't have a sky.com account, so you can set one up for him and use it.

With Sky Go you can use one tablet/phone and one computer with each sky account.

Make sure you connect your sound bar with optical cable if it is compatible! Such a difference!!

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

Freeview HD - Jonny b - 03-01-2013

Oh yeh Samsung smart led tv and Samsung 7.1 surround sound, oh also a 6ft x 5ft hd projector feckin awsomes. Might have a spare cable, though you ain't getting nowt else of me for free lol

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

Freeview HD - Jonny b - 03-01-2013

Gutted bud best buy a new tele then lol

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

Can i use 3.5mm audio jack?

Freeview HD - Jonny b - 03-01-2013

You can if your sound bar has that as an input, tv should have RCA outputs though

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 03-01-2013

http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/audio-visual/digital-sound-projector/yas-101/7598/6643

So TV Coaxial should work.

Hoping i can lie about a "faulty tele" and swap it for one with an optical output lol!!

Freeview HD - Jonny b - 03-01-2013

What tv you got?

RE: Freeview HD - Just Sean - 04-01-2013

I think! Its a 32" led and its got brushed metal effext

RE: Freeview HD - Midnightclub - 04-01-2013

Sean, that box would be fine! If you know you would record tonnes of stuff then it may well be worth getting the 1tb version
