What to replace when changing a engine - Danny2009 - 05-12-2012 Some may have seen in my progress thread that my headgasket has gone so I'm replacing the engine with my 80k spare one What do I change while its out? Cambelt and tensioners May do the water pump while its out Oil and filters Anything else I should do / change I'm going to chop the air con pipes out while the engines out RE: What to replace when changing a engine - HDIkyle - 05-12-2012 I have replaced everything really. Gearbox seals, pinchbolts, cleaned all the steering rack, subframe, painted the bay up, new mounts and so on just because I cba doing it again in afew months but enginewise just belts as its a bitch to get to the aux belt when its in the car so I'd dred a cambelt RE: What to replace when changing a engine - ginge191 - 05-12-2012 in fairness, oil maybe easier to change once the engine is in; if your engine isn't on a stand, draining oil and moving an engine is an absoloute pita once on the ground. RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Piggy - 05-12-2012 Do all you can afford RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Dum-Dum - 05-12-2012 As above, EVERYTHING you can afford! I could happily spend £500 on doing bits while the engine is out as theyer so easy to do while its out. In no particular order things you should consider: Full service; Oil, air and fuel filters and the oil itself. Belts; cam belt, aux belt, all new tensioners and replace the water pump. Seals; Inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, both crank seals, gearbox input and output seals, rocker cover gasket. Full set of engine mounts. All new coolant. Set of decent glow plugs. Brand new main earths and power cables. Gear box oil. PAS Fluid. Water pipe O rings. And actually the PITA water pipes so new matrix hoses and the one that runs alongside the engine. RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Danny2009 - 05-12-2012 I haven't got a unlimited budget so some things I won't change. Ill change all the belts and good shout on the gearbox seals How do you go about the crank seals? Some good things to change there that I haven't even thought about! RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Piggy - 05-12-2012 Inlet, exhaust and cam cover gaskets are real cheap Re: What to replace when changing a engine - aggyj17 - 05-12-2012 Id change the cambelt, waterpump, clutch, gearbox oil seals atleast. its quite obvious that you need to change all the fluids aswell as hey need to all be drained when the old engine comes out RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Danny2009 - 05-12-2012 Inlet gasket will be changed when I put different turbo on and may as well change the rocker gasket Any major things to change while the engines out that would be a pain to do while its in there RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Ricky - 05-12-2012 I changed my belts and tensioners, driveshaft seals. RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Kwik - 05-12-2012 when i did my engine change i spent over £300 on parts! complete list taken from my Project Thread Engine Cam Belt + Tensioner's Water Pump Manifold Gaskets Down Pipe Gasket Aux Pulley to non A/C one Aux belt 1125mm Leakoffs Linkage (snapped when removing now gears feel lush!lol) Oil + Filters Power Steering Pipe + Fluid Coolant Radiator Welding of Top Mount Cup change all you can less headache in the future RE: What to replace when changing a engine - Matt - 05-12-2012 Raccoon filter.... |
