rear strut brace - bighead02 - 15-11-2012

Was just wondering if my 1.6 99 plate (v reg) can have a rear strut brace because obviosly im on torsion bar so its not the conventional shocks so yeh any help would be much appreciated it

RE: rear strut brace - Scott - 15-11-2012

You can get thicker torsion bars and anti-roll bar to provide more stiffness for the rear

RE: rear strut brace - puglove - 15-11-2012

iv been thinkin about this. i was wondering if a A fame could be made? bolted over the front and rear beam mounts the welded to the archs in a simular way to the harness bar ?

Any one have any thoughts on this ?

RE: rear strut brace - swampy - 15-11-2012

Why???

As said the rear of a 306 doesn't have struts so You can't brace them

If you get the rear beam to twist then you have big issues!!!

Welding a frame between the rear beam mounts won't do much either

RE: rear strut brace - puglove - 15-11-2012

meeeh just a thought

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 15-11-2012

There is a way to brace it a touch, not made one yet though, needs a little mod to the chassis to fit.

Why does this sound like an understatement?

RE: rear strut brace - Jonny81191 - 15-11-2012

is this one of the "little mods" that require extensive use of an angle grinder and a welder??

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 15-11-2012

Angle grinding and welding is a little mod. It's not my fault you lot get squeamish as soon as anyone comes near with a rivet gun.

Never said I was squeamish lol, just that most wouldn't consder anything including an angle grinder a "little mod" Big Grin

Re: rear strut brace - kernow_joe - 15-11-2012

Angle grinder, sledge hammer and welder are standard tools are they not?

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 15-11-2012

They're standard tools just for fixing a French car...

RE: rear strut brace - c.gerrard - 15-11-2012

Well the point of the design is for them to flex and twist, so surely attaching some kind of brace would make bugger all difference?!?!

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 15-11-2012

You've still got the spring and damper loadings to react into the chassis.

RE: rear strut brace - c.gerrard - 15-11-2012

Would have thought with the load not being that great, it just seems a bit overkill.

Where abouts do you reckon would be best? I'm vaguely aware something can be done between the C pillars

RE: rear strut brace - samass - 15-11-2012

just cage the whole thing, done.

RE: rear strut brace - samass - 16-11-2012

That's your 'slight modification' to the shell, isn't it? A full roll cage!

RE: rear strut brace - Dum-Dum - 16-11-2012

If you want some sort of bracing then the A frame tie bar thing that he 206GTi180 has could fit and all the parts are about £300 from peugeot.

Supprised nobody has tried fitting one yet TBH

RE: rear strut brace - puglove - 16-11-2012

the gti180 what dum? :S

^^^ That.

RE: rear strut brace - puglove - 17-11-2012

hhhhmmmm looks interesting. what would be the pros and conds on this?

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 17-11-2012

Reduces the flex on the rear trailing arms but adds a bit more weight and friction in return.

RE: rear strut brace - Midnightclub - 17-11-2012

Any noticeable improvement in handling?

RE: rear strut brace - Rippthrough - 17-11-2012

Rear would be more predictable at the expense of a little ride quality.
