juddering under braking - 318d4n - 03-08-2012 Everytime I brake there is a slight juddering through the steering wheel, had a quick look and the discs seem fine and not warped, anyone have any idea? RE: juddering under braking - THE_Liam - 03-08-2012 Can't tell if discs are warped by looking at them, and that's usually what it is, but if it's not that... - Worn wishbone bushes/balljoints/TREs - Flat spots or deformed tyres - buckled wheels - loose steering column/rack - driveshafts/CV joints Could be any of the above really... RE: juddering under braking - Ed Doe - 03-08-2012 If it's only under braking its more than likely warped discs. Could also be build-up on the discs though, which will disappear in time with use. mine are fairly warped I think, it's a pain in the arse but not dangerous.. RE: juddering under braking - Choppin - 04-08-2012 Mine does the same thing, only under hardish breaking tho, if I break normaly or slam the f*ckers on then it's fine RE: juddering under braking - 318d4n - 04-08-2012 Looks like I've got some more checking to do then, would it fail its mot or does it just depend which problem is causing it, ed, that's a very good excuse to drive/brake fast RE: juddering under braking - Ed Doe - 04-08-2012 Shouldn't fail an mot unless the car has significantly different braking efficiency between the two front wheels. RE: juddering under braking - 318d4n - 04-08-2012 ah thats okay then, need to get a few bits done before the mot in october, as long as it doesnt fail then ill leave it for now RE: juddering under braking - daddyfixit - 04-08-2012 it will fail mot with a "fluctuating brake effort"-----------a buckled disc. do you know how to use a dti guage? or have a mate who can get one???-then check the discs while the wheels are off to confirm that the discs are in fact made of soft cheese, and thats why they are warped. juddering under braking - THE_Liam - 04-08-2012 I have a little test for warped disks, feel free to laugh. Clamp a spanner or a screwdriver to the strut so it's almost touching the disk, then turn the disk and watch the gap between the 2. If there's any real movement the disk is f*cked... |
