Rattle? - kentiiboii - 05-07-2012 Been driving car today and pulled up at a round about with a old xud behind me and heared a faint rattle so thought it was the xud. Went down my local bypass got to ikebana turned the car off and the rattle was back but louder. So I had a look round took engine cover off as I know it's loose but it wasn't that been checking nothing's loose. Cam Belt and aux belt was done 10k ago as well all tensioners and things. Just had it remapped to stage 1 but I doubt that would cause a rattle. I started the car when I got it home and it was quiet again. So turn it off tried again and it was loud. Any one had anything similar? Or any ideas. Going to strip aux belt tomorrow see if it still accurs. If still there stripping cam belt cover. Just don't want to remove cam belt as I'm skint this week :/. Thanks ladies and gents RE: Rattle? - Matt - 05-07-2012 Exhaust manifold bolts tight? Rattle? - kentiiboii - 05-07-2012 Hmm not sure will check in morning. RE: Rattle? - Mr Whippy - 07-07-2012 Well worth inspecting that end of the engine. I did similar back in the day on my GTi6 as it rattled a lot and I was worried. Removed the aux belt, started it up and it was silent. So I put it down to a worn roller/tensioner on the aux belt area. Not sure why it'd come and go so much though, usually they come/go when hot/cold. Did you do the cambelt etc, or someone else? Was it a Dayco kit? Well worth having a check if it's still a bit noisy/rattly after aux belt off test... just visual inspect nothing has gone wrong. I'm sure it'll be fine though, Peugeots rattle, if it's not the injectors it's the lower pulley or some other common rattly part Dave Rattle? - kentiiboii - 14-07-2012 I did the cambelt mate. Positive it was conitec I think the make it something on lines of that. I took aux belt off other day and the noise had gone. When cara running noticed the pas pump was getting hot quick so we put it down to bearing in that. So we got a second hand one and fitted it today and it's still there no difference. When we took the aux off the car was still jacked up so maybe it could be something in the engine. Tomorrow going to try again taking aux belt of dropping car of jack and see if the noise still there. Of its still there I'll strip cam belt cover off and see what's inside there. If still nothing I fear it's something in my engine. Dave not pointing fingers or anything. But do you think it could be something down to my map by any chance? Do you think it may be worth while uploading my old map and see if it makes a difference? Any ideas everyone will be a massive help RE: Rattle? - declantg - 14-07-2012 Downpipe? Rattle? - kentiiboii - 14-07-2012 It's not that sort of rattle mate. It's more of a tappy motion sort of rattle. Higher the revs and it gets louder. RE: Rattle? - Poodle - 15-07-2012 Can't think of anything at all in a map that could cause a rattle, beyond slightly increased injection noise. Rattles are caused by mechanical issues, my money would be on crank-pulley, tensioner/idler pulleys or maybe something knackered in your head. As in cylinder head, as opposed to "you're losing it mate" lol. Not heard of that belt company before, don't dismiss it just because it's been done recently. Did you do the work yourself? Rattle? - kentiiboii - 15-07-2012 Yeah my dad did the work don't trust my self yet with cam belt :p and I'll double check the make it was from motor factors anyway. I'm checking all cam belt today when my dad gets here. Hopefully it's not anything in engine don't wanna loose this car too attached Rattle? - kentiiboii - 15-07-2012 Continental is the cam belt. I just saw conti on sticker and made rest up. Rattle? - kentiiboii - 15-07-2012 Now putting this down to crankshaft pulley. Took aux belt off again and it's gone had a good look round there's brown dust around the pulley. Plus all the nuts holding the cam cover had come loose around that area. So tomorrow picking up a pulley. RE: Rattle? - 4WayDiablo - 15-07-2012 Got a rattle? Sure its not tappy? /Ed Doe Sorry about the lack of help lol Rattle? - kentiiboii - 15-07-2012 (15-07-2012, 06:55 PM)4WayDiablo Wrote: Got a rattle? Sure its not tappy? No worries. We're use to it RE: Rattle? - Poodle - 16-07-2012 Hahahah true dat! I don't suppose the rattle has stopped now you've tightened your cam cover bolts...? Crankshaft pulley does sound like it's on it's way out from the description, hope that solves it for you. Rattle? - kentiiboii - 16-07-2012 Nope we thought it may stop when tightened them up. Yeah got to search for a pulley today get some prices. But tbh looking at it I'm 90% it's the pulley. When I took aux belt off looking at it i could see it moving a little but wasn't sure if it was cos the engine moves anyway so I had a little tug at it and it does have play. RE: Rattle? - Poodle - 17-07-2012 Conti belt should be fine, decent enough company. This is the pulley people have been using as an upgrade, do a search on the part number and some bargains come up. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-FEBI-Crankshaft-Pulley-CITREON-BERLINGO-1-9-2-0-0515-S4-/120939340570?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c288be31a RE: Rattle? - gareth7 - 17-07-2012 This ones a little cheaper, same one as Poodle's link and with free postage mate........ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271003297997?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1852wt_892 Rattle? - kentiiboii - 17-07-2012 Thanks you guys. Just one question. What's different about this one? What makes everyone go for it or is it just because it's cheaper? RE: Rattle? - Poodle - 17-07-2012 Doesn't fall apart the same way the standard items do afaik. And because it's cheaper. That's not a cheap one, this was cheap one (that's not a knife): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200741294501 |
