i figure its gunna need welding... its proper soft. that last pic is the result of tapping it with a chisel. can hear it flaking off on the inside....

what do we think? how much is that gunna be to sort?

Re: I found a hole... - procta - 28-05-2012

fuckin hell 306s rot on there floor pans?!! id expect my rover to do so but not a 306!
see how bad it is from the inside of the car etc. shouldnt be expentive to fix if your good with a diy and a welder. or if a pal is.

Re: I found a hole... - Ruan - 28-05-2012

Nah, they always go there... Assuming that's just behind the front wheel...

Very common place for them to go, stones chip away at the underseal, removing it, then finally water in, voila rust...

Next place always is the upper rear arch, mud, crap and a few stonechips = hole.

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 28-05-2012

yep, drivers side, just behind the subframe. looks like someone might have tried to jack it there, pretty caved in. just talked to my mate, gunna go to his and use his welder and patch it up tomorrow.

what gauge steel should i use? bout 3mm?

Re: I found a hole... - Ruan - 28-05-2012

Around that mark, yep.

They always do look caved in there, but lol someone's tried to jack on the random point that looks like a jacking point, but really isn't... I swear every 306 I've seen has that bashed in haha!

Re: I found a hole... - Toms306 - 28-05-2012

Yeah they need to make more jacking points on 306's...dented mine there and ripped the underseal off lol, luckily I don't keep cars long enough to worry about rust though.

Re: I found a hole... - Grant - 28-05-2012

Whats going on on here with rusty chassis at the moment. Ouch man, if you need any help gimme a shout, more than happy to lend a hand...
I've got some 3mm steel here you can have, about 200mmx150mm if thats big enough. Hard to tell from pics...

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 28-05-2012

sweet Grant, mucho appreciated! 200 by 150 should be plenty, how many tokens of the beer variety would you like in exchange?

yep rusty chassis' are a bit too common atm the mo... thankfully my subframe mounts are all good... the main reason i was under the car poking around!

Re: I found a hole... - Grant - 28-05-2012

How about you lend me your welder in exchange? haha

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 28-05-2012

Re: I found a hole... - Grant - 28-05-2012

What sorta time did you wanna come get it?

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 28-05-2012

Re: I found a hole... - silverzx - 28-05-2012

*cough* helping Matt with his car on Wednesday *cough*

Re: I found a hole... - Niall - 28-05-2012

Exactly where mine went. Except worst haha. The actual floor will still be mint as Peugeot did protect the floor plan before welding the chassis legs on. Grind it out, double and triple check there is no rust on the bottom of the floor, give it a clean up and weld the new plates in. Job done!

or do you mean 'teenagepregnancychavhill'?

Re: I found a hole... - Ruan - 29-05-2012

Lol!!!

Pretty much!

Well, no, there's a downhill track there for mountain biking, which is where you go to shred some gnar... Some will know what I'm on about.

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 29-05-2012

Ooh I did know know that! Where abouts is it?

Re: I found a hole... - Ruan - 29-05-2012

There's also a massive 4x track there:

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 29-05-2012

Re: I found a hole... - Ruan - 29-05-2012

Re: I found a hole... - samass - 29-05-2012

Re: I found a hole... - 4WayDiablo - 29-05-2012

ahaha whoops lol, waxoil y0!

Re: I found a hole... - Grant - 29-05-2012

Holy crap man. Looks like you've got it cut out and cleaned up nicely though. You putting a rust treater on it overnight before welding?
Also, are those plates I gave you big enough now? That box section you have cut has to effect the strength of the body, no?

Re: I found a hole... - daddyfixit - 29-05-2012

1. repair the floor pan first with 1 piece of metal, wont be as weak as using bits here and there.
2. then make up a piece of chassis leg by bending the metal and folding it around a piece of wood or similar, so its in the shape of the chassis leg .
3. put new piece over the hole, plug weld it to new floor plate you put on.
4. stitch weld it to the original chassis leg where you have had the grinder down to shiny metal
5. spray aerosol of hammerite/waxoil or commas cavity wax and drown the b----stard till its dripping out all over you !!!

Re: I found a hole... - Niall - 29-05-2012

Fook maybe it was as bad as mine!
