Gearbox mount issues - dr_jekyll - 25-10-2018 Been having a few teething issues now with cracked turbo brackets and bolts shearing off. Admittedly the first bracket was an incredibly poor lash up to get the car back on the road. After that i tig'd up all the shit welds filling them right in and then triangulated the arm to add additional strength. This time tye bracket failed on the piss poor mounting point and poor bolt choice.... 2x stainless m6 bolts that hold the chra in the exhaust housing. Ive now over engineered the bracket adding a further mounting point, triangulating the whole frame and using high tensiles on every fixing point. It was suggested to me that this may be failing due to heat expansion and was advised to fit a flexi pre turbo. Now ive never actually heard of this being done or seen it in anyone elses projects so was wondering if this is a feasible remedy. Slightly concerned the flexi may not hold the back pressure and temp as i can peak upto 40psi back pressure on a spike and 800deg c in temp Opinions??? RE: Gearbox mount issues - welshpug - 26-10-2018 use HT fixings not SS, twice as strong. Also is the downpipe bolted to anything but the turbo? |
