cully's XU10J4RS - cully - 06-05-2016 remember Biancas old engine the one the timing pulley cracked? Ive been slowly gathering bits to rebuild it as another good spare engine ready to go I bought Rocker Tom's old engine the one he killed at combe hoping there were some goodies i could save but out of the whole engine he did a good job on it head casting was scrap, block was scrap i managed to save the valves x16 and crank! 8 of the inlets and the crank i have put into this build first off to build was the head strip right back clean, check, true head, grind valves, new valve guide seals, pick out the best of the 32 hydraulic followers nd springs refit next up was to chose which crank to use out of the two i have to do this i bought a set of new std main and bigend bearings, with these i used Plastigauge measuring tool to determine which crank journals were in the best condition, to my suprise both cranks measured the same, both well within the bearing tolerances for the std shells on both mains and bigends. so visualy i chose toms crank with the plastigauge you cut a small section then clamp it with the bearing, the bearing will squish the waxy section giving you a width to measure you take the measurement and refer to the bearing manufacturers tolerance if your in the tolerance all is good my choices were made on the crank now do i go race bearings....... yup i bought King race bigend bearings Malhe main bearings Coetze C20LET rings just be warned the pictures jump back and forward in time block, crank, rods were all cleaned ready for assembly which i have been doing over this week as of this evening im at a stage where im ready to fit the sump! RE: cully's XU10J4RS - Matt - 07-05-2016 Christ I didn't realise you went through all that! I thought you were just changing rods!! Cracking effort mate RE: cully's XU10J4RS - cully - 07-05-2016 forgot to clean the sump up, so put it through my parts washer 1 cycle then wirebrush in a drill to break up the lumps left then onto a final cycle of wash now to fit it to the engine block RE: cully's XU10J4RS - cully - 07-05-2016 I now have a freshly assembled refurbished short motor! i cant assemble any more untill i start buying gaskets so this project is on hold now untill probably june RE: cully's XU10J4RS - bashbarnard - 07-05-2016 looks epic man as always. i love this project just the details man. i love the details RE: cully's XU10J4RS - cully - 29-06-2016 ordered some more gaskets will be putting the head on this soon RE: cully's XU10J4RS - welshpug - 29-06-2016 waaaaat! you copied my orange engine!!
