diesel pump leak - callumh121 - 08-04-2016

noticed this morning very strong smell of diesel so started my car and popped my bonnet to see diesel dripping on to my alterantor from what looks like a plastic or rubber circle bung on the side of the pump is this a seal or change pump ?

sounds like the cap on the front of a Lucas pump, there is a seal there yes.

If it's the plastic round plug with a one way screw, that's the cap to open up the internals of the pump - sounds like it may have been tuned.

You could try and tighten it, but if not any scrapyard will likely have a car with same engine can you can nick the cap off it, just need a screwdriver and a hammer to undo it.

thanks for replies managed to tighten up abit with a large flat screwdriver bit but judgeing by the cap its chewed round the edge and lost its seal ive stopped it from puring out to a drip every now and then so will get a new seal
