my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 04-02-2015

So after having my car a week or so and getting used to the fact I drive a diesel these day iam noticing a few bits and pieces that require attention, not to worry would have been a lot worse if one off the previous owners hadn't put so much money into it. Unfortunately the owner who bought it from him seems to have failed on a few points causing slow lumpy straps in the morning and no real heat from the heaters after the engine temp rising significantly while waiting at a drive through the other day I checked the coolant level and found it to be low so decided on topping it up well 2 litres off anti freeze coolant mix later and my heaters are a bit warmer but still systems not full another trip to the supplier for me. This morning I blew a headlight 16 gbp for a bulb damm!! But turns they are on offer 2 for 1 so just got 2

Anyway all in all once I have the other 4 or so litres off coolant in and a good run iam confident car will be nearer it's former glory, ohh and I got the windscreen fixed as well

Welcome to the fold! Any pics of the car? Your coolant problem sounds like an air lock in the system, did you just top up the expansion tank? There's a convoluted method of bleeding these I think which means you need to make a temp header tank to stick in the expansion tank otherwise you'll never get all the air out

what he said, I put the same in your duplicate thread Smile

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

well i have now added 5 litres off coolant/anti freeze into the system which makes me wonder how much was actually there i havent checked this morning to see how it has settled this time round but it started first time this morning with no effort at all and within 5 to 10 mins the blowers started blowing out hot air well needed seeing as i have been running around for a week with about 6 layers on just to keep warm pics will be up in 10 mins

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - Toms306 - 05-02-2015

Its probably burning the coolant lol. Also you need to bleed it rather than just sticking more in! The whole system only holds about 7 litres so theres a problem somewhere imo.

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - PartyJas - 05-02-2015

You mentioned the engine temp rose significantly. These engines don't like getting hot and I wouldn't be surprised if you had blown the head gasket. Or it may have gone before you got the car which would explain it losing water.

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

pictures as requested freshly taken

you cant really see the blue dials as its to bright so will get afresh picture off them tonight but as you can see neat and tidy car apart from the back bumper really which i caused the first day i got it silly me forgot to check the rear view mirror before reversing and reversed straight into an astra that was behind me he claims over a 1000 to get his bumper replaced could prob get a whole kit for his astra at that price but its in the insurance companies hands now

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - 1616six - 05-02-2015

Looking good! Rare colour & it's had an engine conversion which is good!

when i say rose significantly it sat just below 90 cooled down nearly instantly once i drove of again it rarely went as high as 70 in the past now it all seems settled but will be flushing the system once i have re-read the guide on how to do it

thanks JJ and yeah engine transplant 2 owners ago the original engine was blown up/not looked after not really sure so he took the option off getting new engine because as the last owner put it "it would cost to much to repair engine for MOT" surely a repair is cheaper than putting a whole new engine in either way iam glad it was done

i had no idea that it was a rare colour

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - Mattcheese31 - 05-02-2015

never been a rare colour, common as muck, don't know what JJ thinks it is, does look a little funky in those pictures . . anyway, got a rear bumper in that colour here if you need it, a piece of good luck having the engine swap and ending up with a Bosch pump too . . .Smile

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - bashbarnard - 05-02-2015

That used to be a hdi. Even got a Bosch on. Smile

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

Bash it was previously a straight diesel 1.8

And matt I would be interested in bumper depending on price and distance of course

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - Toms306 - 05-02-2015

Straight diesel was 1.9...

How much tax do you pay on it?

HDi would've been £145 on y reg. Straight D a lot more. Or does it go on the 'new' engine so £240?

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - 1616six - 05-02-2015

It was a NAD as standard, looking on the tax checker it still appears to be registered as a NAD?

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

That's cause it is now thing is what does nad stand for cause I have no clue lol

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - DarkInferno - 05-02-2015

That top mount looks knackered.

NAD : Normally Aspirated Diesel (no turbo.)

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

I Google the answer to what nad was but thanks for telling me and what mount so I can check it tomorrow

I had a set for about 4 years...now on Wingnutz estate.

I have only seen ONE other set in that time...they are the ones B19 FEX owned...looks like you've got his now...so yeah, very rare. Have heard of another set on ebay though...so that makes 3 sets in the UK... lol

I've only ever seen Mercury on Y plates! Nauest's estate is the same colour.

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - 1616six - 05-02-2015

I've seen another set on a car on here recently. Can't think who it was now though!

RE: my 306 1.9 tdi meridian - sb194114 - 05-02-2015

That would still only make 4 and think off all the 306's on UK roads Smile
