Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 03-01-2015 Hi guys so end of febuary I will be purchasing a nice shiny referbed GTi beam off Stef205. I'll be looking to upgrade the braking system while I'm changing the beam. I was thinking of gti6 brakes as its a common mod for 106's and reasonably cheap. So my question is what will I need to do this so far I can think of: 283mm rotors 6' callipers Calliper bolts Pads Rear callipers Rear rotors And possibly a 6' master cylinder? Brake fluid Would that be all I'll need to convert it RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Connor - 03-01-2015 Discs, we're not american, well you lot aint RE: Brakes for 106 track car - swampy - 03-01-2015 Stay with266 far lighter and work just aswell on the106 May aswell fit braided lines of your going to all that extent RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 03-01-2015 (03-01-2015, 07:07 PM)Connor Wrote: Discs, we're not american, well you lot aint Sorry so will that be all I'll need? Make sure everything's in good order and fit some brembo discs, decent pads (I like mintex) and fluid. Leave the boat anchor gti6 brakes on the 306 RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Piggy - 03-01-2015 If you want 283s but dont want as much weight and a more modern design of caliper, get 206 gti180 bosch calipers as they are loads lighter and a little smaller. 266 calipers and discs though will be loads cheaper and with decent pads stop that light little motor quick enough. I got a pair of 266calipers you can have for £20delivered RE: Brakes for 106 track car - procta - 03-01-2015 good quality pads and discs RE: Brakes for 106 track car - MY95 - 03-01-2015 266mm easily enough for most 106's due to weight As Piggy said 247s are standard on most 106's 283mm pointless in my opinion as more money and much more weight than the 266s which are ideal really... go 266! RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 03-01-2015 (03-01-2015, 10:26 PM)Piggy Wrote: If you want 283s but dont want as much weight and a more modern design of caliper, get 206 gti180 bosch calipers as they are loads lighter and a little smaller. I'll keep that in mind if Ian doesn't have any then I'll have those off you, do you know if all rear disks and callipers are the same size on 106's and 306's? Because I'll need some for the new rear beam RE: Brakes for 106 track car - allanallen - 03-01-2015 (03-01-2015, 10:26 PM)Piggy Wrote: If you want 283s but dont want as much weight and a more modern design of caliper, get 206 gti180 bosch calipers as they are loads lighter and a little smaller. Not sure the gti180 brakes are loads lighter? I actually thought they were heavier, the discs certainly are! RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 03-01-2015 Found these Brembo disks seem really cheap hoping there real. Just need to source some rear callipers http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=270752047428 http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=330568126538 RE: Brakes for 106 track car - procta - 03-01-2015 (03-01-2015, 11:51 PM)Nathan1305 Wrote: Found these Brembo disks seem really cheap hoping there real. Just need to source some rear callipers I run those on my rover metro, and they are ok, I am changing the pads to yellow stuff as they work really well for the 306 RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 03-01-2015 (03-01-2015, 11:54 PM)procta Wrote:(03-01-2015, 11:51 PM)Nathan1305 Wrote: Found these Brembo disks seem really cheap hoping there real. Just need to source some rear callipers with yours been a track car you maybe wanting to ask some of the lads on here that run serious power, as you will be putting this car through some stick on a track. with me pulling some daft power with the metro the brembos stop the car ok, but that's with out giving it some and motorway driving. I am not sure how close the metro is to your little pocket rocket, but I can see it been bloody close. Just need to source some rear callipers I'm thinking of trying some standard mintex pads and seeing how they do for my first session RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Anton - 04-01-2015 As Allan has said i'm pretty sure 206 gti brakes aren't lighter. The discs are a lot heavier as they are thicker, 22mm v 26mm. Personally I think you should get 266mm with decent pads, should be more than adequate. RE: Brakes for 106 track car - allanallen - 04-01-2015 I'd avoid ebc pads. I'd be fitting mintex 1155s or ferodo ds3000, they're at the cheaper end of circuit pads and aren't too harsh on discs. Mintex f4rs and CL rc's are very good pads, much more expensive and destroy discs though. Also cover your car in dust/metal etc! RE: Brakes for 106 track car - welshpug - 10-01-2015 still on standard engine? std discs will do tbh. RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 10-01-2015 Yeah still on the 1.6 8v just going to get those brembos as they are cheap and some mintex pads RE: Brakes for 106 track car - procta - 10-01-2015 (10-01-2015, 04:56 PM)Nathan1305 Wrote: Yeah still on the 1.6 8v just going to get those brembos as they are cheap and some mintex pads good as anything. Far better than anything ebc offer I hate there pad compounds! Get the halfords performace fluid very good for the money and drop me a PM ref the braided lines RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Piggy - 10-01-2015 Dont get standard mintex pads... If standard type, go bosch or brembo. If track type, then Ferrodo 2500s RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Nathan1305 - 10-01-2015 Thanks guys I'm pretty happy with the choice (10-01-2015, 11:06 PM)Piggy Wrote: Dont get standard mintex pads... I'll have a look for those pads RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Stef205 - 10-01-2015 i run standard mintex pads on my 4 pots no issues on mine. Yeah I'm just going to go for standard to be honest. I know you get what you pay for with pads but I just need some reasonably good ones to get used to how the car is on track RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Piggy - 11-01-2015 I'm killing my mintex as it is on the road hence my comment. I'm sure the 4pots dont need to work as hard mind RE: Brakes for 106 track car - Stef205 - 11-01-2015 (10-01-2015, 11:50 PM)Nathan1305 Wrote:(10-01-2015, 11:46 PM)Stef205 Wrote: i run standard mintex pads on my 4 pots no issues on mine. Id also look into some brembo pads too, ive a friend using some on some 266's and they seem to with stand a fair bit. I used mintex on my gti6 calipers and i had no issues. Using cheap discs wont help as there heat process isnt as good as the better brands. |
