Engine trouble - Matt - 30-09-2014

So driving along, everything fine. Suddenly engine gets a lot louder, a lot more rattly and knocky. No power, well lack if power, black smoke while driving, haze of smoke on idle, will stall every now and then,

Nothing changed, didn't hit anything, no clunks or bangs. Just happened

RE: Engine trouble - Mattcheese31 - 30-09-2014

Timing slipped on pump...that's my shout, don't drive anymore, change cam and aux belt Smile

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 30-09-2014

Damn you think it will knacker the pump if driven? I drove it home from town :/

RE: Engine trouble - Mattcheese31 - 30-09-2014

No, it's just if it slips anymore, valves may hit things lol

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 30-09-2014

Fair enough Smile so new cambelt and aux belt then?
That's all I bloody need!! Aha

RE: Engine trouble - Mattcheese31 - 30-09-2014

Sounds like it mate, unless you got a stupid boost leak but can't think why she'd stall if it were that...

RE: Engine trouble - londondan86 - 30-09-2014

Agree with Mr cheese there. Sounds like timing has slipped, stop driving it immediately and get that belt sorted!

RE: Engine trouble - ginge191 - 30-09-2014

holla if you need a hand/tow..
Also have a free grill and badge waiting here for you Smile

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 30-09-2014

Sweet. Ginge I'll give you a message some time this week Smile

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 01-10-2014

Cheapest place to buy? And what is the proper name for an aux belt? Or am I being thick. It's totally slipped my mind what I'm looking for

RE: Engine trouble - ConorTRG - 01-10-2014

Auxilary belt/serpentine belt/fanbelt, no need to replace it tbh unless its worn. btw theres 2 different timing belt kits the back plate on the idler pulley is the difference between the 2.

RE: Engine trouble - Piggy - 01-10-2014

I would be investigating WHY its slipped!!

RE: Engine trouble - Mattcheese31 - 01-10-2014

If it's slipped its probably because some aux belt has got caught up in cam belt, hence why I said to replace them both Smile

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 01-10-2014

Matts in the ball, checked my aux belt, there is a chunk missing and a fraud but, guess they got mashed together

So which one am I gunna need? And what am I looking for too tell the difference? What does the back plate look like? Are the belts themselves the same? If so might just replace the belt for time being till I can affor to do the whole hog

RE: Engine trouble - mr_fish - 01-10-2014

Just get a 1.9DT cambelt (I believe they're all the same)

Aux belt is a little more tricky. I found the different PAS pumps have different sized pulleys.

Does yours have AC?

Not sure on your motorfactors, but just take your old one in to match to a new one there will no doubt be a few variants for the XUD

But you do need to investigate why the aux belt moved off track. Tensioner on the piss/belt slack/etc

RE: Engine trouble - silverzx - 01-10-2014

When in doubt, rip it out.

(The engine).

I most certainly am not in the ball, or in any way living inside a testicle Big Grin

RE: Engine trouble - Connor - 01-10-2014

Check the timing first before buying anything

RE: Engine trouble - Matt - 04-10-2014

Will try and get it checked tonight
Checked prices and its like14 for a Campbelt and 3 quid for a.drive belt which I'm guessing is the aux belt as its so cheap

no, 3 quid is too cheap, should be about a tenner or so for aux belt and 20 for cam belt approx x
