Whats this bodge/relay? - kentiiboii - 19-03-2014

So the gti6 all of a sedden wint start. Trying to figure it out. Upon checking fuses and relay I notice this little bodge job.

Any ideas what the relay is ment to to. Any ideas why its bodged like this?

Does it have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted? If so, it's probably related to that

Unplug it and see what doesn't work ...

Looks like the same wiring as the GPS tracker I had installed in mine on my first years insurance. It was hidden behind the top glove box on mine. One wire is permanent live and the other switched so the tracker knows when to turn on and off.

I could be wrong though, just looks familiar.

Isnt that in the heat rear window relay position? I dont have a 306 to hand.

RE: Whats this bodge/relay? - Mattcheese31 - 14-07-2014

Nope Smile

They use the same fuse box for all the ph3s and thats where the relay would be for a rear window. Tbh there is nothing bodged about that. Its common practice when taking power for aftermarket kit to use an unused fuse point or relay point like that. In fact, a lot of modern cars have spare points so you can just take a switched feed with a spade connector Smile

RE: Whats this bodge/relay? - Toms306 - 14-07-2014

That's not a ph3 fusebox. It's the ph2 with the relays in an L shape rather than 2 rows of the ph3.

This thread is pretty old anyway, so its obviously been sorted lol.

ah ok but is that not the same as a remote wire on a stereo? . . . . .wouldn't think it'd need fusing .. . Smile
