HDi oil level gauge - aircool - 06-03-2012

New to 'oc Big Grin

Weird one for you!

Got in the pug at work and the oil level gauge read low and started flashing.

Managed to get back put it on some known level ground and gave it a 45-60 minutes to cool off and level but it read 2/3 up the dispstick.

Normal?

Or me paranoid and should I top up?

Cheers

2/3 sounds alright to me.... You can always change the oil and put in however much fresh new oil for piece of mind if you really want to Smile

That gauge is pointless really tbh

oil level then turns to oil temp on some petrol models
but on the hdi it is only level for around 10 seconds once the ign is switched on then it go's off

Hi,
found this too, if the car is facing down a slope, it reads lower, and up a slope, higher.

Re: HDi oil level gauge - Mr Whippy - 07-03-2012

Yep, slopes throw off that sensor by miles.

It's only really useful if you are on the flat.

Best to check the level 5 mins after turn off on level ground really. The level on start is just good as a general reminder if it's going down.

My HDi seemed really good on oil though, didn't use any between 10k or 6k intervals (ran 6k after fitting FMIC)
