Spraying a bumper - Bananalad - 05-03-2012 I want to get this bumper i have sprayed on the cheap ![]() ![]() Now i have plastic primer in a rattle can and i also have hi build primer in a rattle can already.. Do you think i could get a decent finish if i primed out of the cans and then just buy a half liter of water based colour and spray it out of a spray gun.. Same with lacquer. I'm just thinking the primer will be flattened down anyway so it doesn't matter how its applied? Thanks for any help ![]() Re: Spraying a bumper - declantg - 05-03-2012 Aslong as your prepare the surface correctly before doing anything the rest will usually turn out good, unless your an idiot with a rattle can ![]() Just keep the layers even and when you spray the colour on make sure you spray it all in the same direction so you dont get uneven distribution ![]() Re: Spraying a bumper - Niall - 05-03-2012 declantg Wrote:Just keep the layers even and when you spray the colour on make sure you spray it all in the same direction so you dont get uneven distribution This is a must if it's a metallic paint otherwise it will look like a 2 year old has done it! Re: Spraying a bumper - mark_airey - 05-03-2012 ^^ Ideally I would do even coats in alternating directions if it was me ![]() But as said, as long as the prep is good then you should get a decent finish. So spray from left to right. Don't go left right then reverse then left right again. If you get me. Re: Spraying a bumper - Bananalad - 05-03-2012 Im handy enough with rattle cans ![]() Re: Spraying a bumper - Bananalad - 05-03-2012 Do i spray ordinary primer over plastic primer? Or straight to colour after it? RE: Spraying a bumper - declantg - 05-03-2012 Normal primer over plastic primer ![]() Re: Spraying a bumper - cwspellowe - 05-03-2012 If the bumpers already painted you don't even need plastic primer. As for spray direction, the base layers of colour don't matter, you should be flattening them anyway. You only need a final coat of colour to be in the same direction for the metallics to lie properly, just build up your initial colour as normal. Once it's primed though you're usually good for most paints on top. Oh and remember when doing each coat to do the cutting in and details first before the large flat areas. Re: Spraying a bumper - Bananalad - 05-03-2012 Thanks very much cwspellowe ![]() Re: Spraying a bumper - mark_airey - 06-03-2012 cwspellowe Wrote:If the bumpers already painted you don't even need plastic primer. Clearly your wrong like me though ![]() Oh, as above, but if its a ph1 or 2 bumper and you plan to paint the black section then you will need to give that a blast with the plastic primer first ![]() if its staying black then just mask it off (obviously) Re: Spraying a bumper - Bananalad - 06-03-2012 Phase 3 bumper thanks mark ![]() |
