Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - silverzx - 02-11-2013 Seen a few debates about various thicknesses between 6mm and 10mm. What do I want, where do I get it? eBay? "Black Steel Plate 200mm x 200mm x 8mm Fixing-Mounting" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300903497094 "Black Steel Square Plate 300mm x 300mm x 6mm thick - Fixing-Mounting -Mild Steel" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291005439626 Any reccomendations / advice? Can't remember if I mentioned in your project but I really like your relocation manifold, looks top quality. RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - padge - 02-11-2013 thanks, its mild steel, I just took my turbo to an engineering place, told him what I wanted. RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - silverzx - 02-11-2013 Bet that set you back a bit! So something like this: Black Steel Square Plate 150mm x 150mm x 10mm Fixing-Mounting - Mild Steel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290970833950 10mm Mild Steel Disc 200mm Diameter http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320928337266 Black Steel Square Plate 300mm x 300mm x 10mm - Fixing-Mounting -Mild Steel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290997481550 RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - padge - 02-11-2013 cost me £40 yeah should be fine. Will 300x300x10mm be enough to make downpipe adapter and exhaust mani adapter? RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - zx_volcane - 02-11-2013 Sod paying 40 quid! Any steel fabricators will have off cuts they'll be happy to sell you, I was lucky enough to be given a few bits last time I asked. 6mm is fine, 10mm is a pita to cut RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - silverzx - 02-11-2013 (02-11-2013, 02:22 PM)zx_volcane Wrote: Sod paying 40 quid! RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - zx_volcane - 02-11-2013 How are you going to be cutting it? Obvs thinner is easier and 6mm is plenty strong for plates. If I was getting it got cheap or free I wouldn't turn down 7,8,9,10mm etc It's just a bit of metal end of day to perform a simple function, doesn't need to clever or even brand new, could cut out of scrap if it'll clean up fairly good and is mostly flat Paul fabbed my gearbox mani out of all sorts of old bits of scrap, reused old adaptor plates i made for other turbos for the end plates, old bumper bracket for support ...etc RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - silverzx - 02-11-2013 I see, thanks dude, I just want to do it properly as I can't be arsed dragging the turbo out and having to refabricate if I can do it properly the first time around! I don't know what I'm going to cut it with tbh. What do most people use? Might have a tool at work suitable for the job (big F-O grinder)! RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - silverzx - 09-11-2013 Still need to sort this out for my adapter plate.. Would 100mm x 100mm x 6mm be large enough? Found a nice pack of 4.. £11.40 posted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290738617400 Or a pack of 2.. £7.00 posted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300934434719 Or a pack of 2 150mm x 150mm x 6mm if 100mm isn't big enough? £13.24 posted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290950705682 RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - Tom - 09-11-2013 I got 10 on my td04 but then i used oxy torch to cut it lol. 6mm would be fine, and it would keep the turbo in closer to the engine. RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - zx_volcane - 09-11-2013 Can't believe you're still debating this, crack on lad! RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - bigcheez2k3 - 09-11-2013 I think the ones CJ got done were 6 or 8mm and they seem to have done the job fine. RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - john85cw - 10-11-2013 ive thrown away hundreds of pieces of flat steel away now i see people selling it on the bay ? ....business idea perhaps ? Haha, pretty much sums up the 205's progress tbf. Just stocking parts and driving/fixing/owning the 200SX. RE: Turbo Adapter Plate Sheeting - Ruan - 13-11-2013 Yeah, 10mm plate is fooking excessive!!!! It's also going to stick the turbo out like 5 miles out the back of the engine. Only issue with 6mm is if you're welding straight to it, you can warp it easier than 10mm... |
