Induction kit for a non standard turbo - 306Puggy - 25-10-2013 Yes I've searched and nothing relevant has come up. So I have a few questions: 1. Is there any way I can keep the standard intake pipes or are they way too restrictive? 2. Is there something flexible that I can just attach one end to the turbo and then bend it how I want to and bung an air filter on the end, sort of like a great big (3 inch plus) vacuum cleaner hose? Or do I have to arse around with metal tubes and silicone hoses? 3. Is there a special air filter for turbo cars that will allow a lot of air through or are they all the same? Thanks. RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Tom - 25-10-2013 Standard sucks, bin it. Yes you can get dual ply flexible silicone stuff ASH sell it, its pretty pricey though. Im sure some people say K&N is the best but tbh, if its a filter it'll be fine. Unless you suck up a child or a bird the XUD wont mind! Oh and unlucky getting banned again Induction kit for a non standard turbo - devils_fuel - 25-10-2013 banned RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - ConorTRG - 25-10-2013 What does he keep getting banned for lol RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Piggy - 26-10-2013 well that went well... and I was just about to have my piggyrant as usual...3 questions which are easy to find answers to on here or with a few seconds on google. ah thats better. morningrantrelief RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - ginge191 - 26-10-2013 Or putting a stupid title; "induction kit" for a "turbo" Well if you can get a kit to help induct air to a turbo then damn I've been doing something wrong RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - 306Puggy - 26-10-2013 (25-10-2013, 07:32 PM)Tom Wrote: Standard sucks, bin it. Oh and unlucky getting banned again Thanks Tom, I was hoping to get this lot: 2x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-90-Degree-Elbow-Hose-Silicone-Pipe-Bend-Coolant-Radiator-Air-Water-/190884907635?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&var=&hash=item2c71a08a73 1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300915577776?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 2x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160655301026?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-Hose-REDUCERS-RED-BLUE-BLACK-for-Intercoolers-etc-all-sizes-/111074299992?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&var=&hash=item19dc8b5058 1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-INCH-New-UNIVERSAL-HIGH-POWER-CONE-AIR-FILTER-BLUE-/230657786295?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b44681b7 The aluminium piping I have specced is 3 inches in diameter for maximum flow, will that fit underneath the bonnet? Thanks again bud Edit: That lot all seems a bit expensive for some silicone and pipes? Am I missing something obvious or is it just a necessary cost? RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Piggy - 26-10-2013 big ass flexi would do it... as found in most project threads on here inc Anton who has a GT2052 RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - 306Puggy - 26-10-2013 Hmm, I've read Anton's project thread (it's only 2 pages long) and have not seen anything regarding the air intake. With a flexi it would need to be clamped to a metal reducer which would then need to be clamped to the turbo intake via a silicone piece. And then a similar setup the other end for the air filter. I'll need a think to figure out which one is best I think. RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Tom - 26-10-2013 Personally i would work out how much all those elbows and stuff is going to cost then compare it to a flexi pipe. Flexi pipe would be reducing 90 from your turbo inlet size to 3" then an ali 3" joiner then 3" flexi. Thats a whole lot less stuff than doing it with hardpipes. Check out this stuff: http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-1-ply-air-ducting-76mm-orange-air-intake-hose-1-metre-to-4-metres.html Just over 20quid a meter. This is what i would do though, if you want to go hardpipe, theres nothing wrong with that, just theres more pieces and it might be more expensive. RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - 306Puggy - 26-10-2013 Thanks for the suggestion Tom, found this on eGay for cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Ducting-Turbo-Hose-for-Air-Filters-Induction-Kit-/160609259051 I was just wondering if it would fit down the back of the engine but seen as people have done this before I can't see why it wouldn't. Gonna find a reducer now and get it ordered! Thanks! RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Ricky - 26-10-2013 Look through my threads, find the project thread for my old dturbo and see the stuff I used. Much easier than using elbows and metal pipe as its quite tight. RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - 306Puggy - 26-10-2013 That's answered my next question about whether the flexi will fit onto a straight reducer, evidently the answer is "no" so I have ordered a reducer elbow instead. Thanks RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Dum-Dum - 26-10-2013 The standard pipes are shit, the tight u bend on the end is uber restrictive. Get a decent reducer, take it out to a good size and then consider tumble drier hose and en ebay induction kit if your on a budget http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-TUMBLE-DRYER-VENT-HOSE-2-5M-x-3-inch-76mm-8-feet-8-/300982105157?pt=UK_Irons_Presses&hash=item4613ee7445 RE: Induction kit for a non standard turbo - Ricky - 26-10-2013 (26-10-2013, 08:01 PM)306Puggy Wrote: That's answered my next question about whether the flexi will fit onto a straight reducer, evidently the answer is "no" so I have ordered a reducer elbow instead. Thanks Yeah the straight is properly tight, took some persuasion to get it attached. Remember you will need a small length of alu. pipe to join the flexi pipe to the silicone bend, and some clamps. |
