Dum-Dums Cabby - Dum-Dum - 16-02-2012

Right first a warning and apology. There is alot of photos in here. I have resized them all to 800x600 and uploaded them to the forum rather than photobucket but theres still ALOT of images here.

Anyway Im finally getting round to posting a project thread about my ph2 China Blue 306 2.0 16v Cabriolet.

I bought the car on the 3/1/12 for £1400 with 6 months tax because there was one picture on the advert that sold it to me.

[attachment=23]

So I got It home and did the typical pug owner thing and took loads of pictures, the china blue is absolutely beautiful in the sunlight.

[attachment=22]
[attachment=21]

About a week after getting the car I bought JonnyBs SP wheels off him and they look lush on the car.

[attachment=20]

I also Fitted a GTi6 Inlet manifold Id bought before I even got the car, an enclosed induction kit, a strut brace and an oil catch tank. I also serviced the car but the pics of this arent interesting.

[attachment=19]
[attachment=18]

I took it to the dyno Like this and it made just shy of 140bhp.

[attachment=17]

A few days later I noticed the oil catch tank was filling up quite quickly with what looked like very fresh oil but its not, I drained it out and it is in fact condensation (water).

[attachment=16]

Near the end of January I fitted a set of group N engine mounts and chocked my upper engine mount as it was jumping about a bit on acceleration and deceleration.
This has solved the problem and the car is much nicer to drive with no engine movement, there is a couple of rattles but i can live with them. I also fitted a 406 gear knob at the same time.

[attachment=15]
[attachment=14]

The cabby seems to attract the grime and road salt but it does leave pretty patterns on the bonnet. It only takes about 2 days to get to this state.

[attachment=11]

Next on the modifying list was lowering so I fitted cheap ebay coilovers (less than £150 delivered). I fitted these with brand new top mounts from pug so I didnt have to take the old struts apart. Im running with an inch of thread left at the bottom but I desperately need stiffer springs. These were fitted with some new wishbones and drop links too.

[attachment=10]
[attachment=9]

After fitting the front suspension myself I took the car down to www.krisb.co.uk to have my torsion bar lowered. He dropped by the exact amount I wanted in little over an hour. He also helped fit a couple of bits id painted for the engine bay.

[attachment=7]
[attachment=6]

I finally got round to giving the car a proper wash and megs wax so thought id better get some pictures.

Plans are;
Yellow Fogs
Crystalls
GTi6 Exhaust manifold
De-Cat
10mmF and 15mmR wheel spacers with a stud conversion
Possibly drop the front end some more
Silver Dash
Touch up stone chips
Paint more engine bits blue
more silicone hoses
Stiffer springs
more lows

Oh and Maybe fit my nitrous kit and a GTi6 box.

So as always comments welcome. Hope you like.

Have you not seen the VERY bling brakes in my garage.

I cant find a trace of anybody in this country running what Ive got. Just need pads, discs and some bolts.

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Poodle - 17-02-2012

I take it you found someone to make adaptors up for an acceptable price then, will be interested to see how that goes...

Oh yes. Probably £10-£20 materials and £30 an hour machining time. So less than £100 easilly.

The company is a company that sells other pug bits so may do me a discount if they think its a comercially viable product.

Oh and for those of you who know what they are dont let on to everyone else cos Its gonna blow the minds of those who dont know.

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Hitchos - 18-02-2012

Looks good mate

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Grant - 18-02-2012

Wilwoods? Aps? Brembo's? Or maybe the air brake from an airbus?

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Dum-Dum - 18-02-2012

Actually as youve posted you reminded me, I did my first fog light today.

Spent ages after peeling the protective clear film off the yellow film wondering why it wouldnt stick. Turns out it has a protective film both sides.

Its supprisingly thick and I managed to smooth and stretch it over the main bit of the lense with my thumb, the rest of it looks a bit shit but you wont see that.

[attachment=0]

Anyway I think Ive decided im gonna do my crystals yellow when they turn up.

Grant Wrote:Wilwoods? Aps? Brembo's? Or maybe the air brake from an airbus?

none of the above but the airbus is probably the closest.

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Foxy-jim - 18-02-2012

Yellow crystals is adventurous. I wanted to do this originally but decided against it!

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Niall - 18-02-2012

You bastard! I wanted to do my fogs yellow! Lol. Where did you get the film?

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Dum-Dum - 18-02-2012

Where do you think, Ebay, £3.

Theres probably enough left to do at least one crystal.

If you buy a roll Ill buy the leftover from you doing your fogs if itll cover a crystal to save me getting another roll.

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - Dum-Dum - 26-02-2012

So A bit of an update.

Replaced my crappy little standard 10" fan with a BFO 16" slim line fan off ebay

[attachment=1]

Got round to upgrading all the earths and most of the lives to new thicker cables to try and get better performance out of the electrical system. (also moved the catch tank a little but no pics of that.)

[attachment=2]

Swapped my crappy broke fogs for shiny yellow ones.

[attachment=3]
[attachment=4]

And just to prove to Jonny I do occasionally clean the wheels

[attachment=0]

Makes me realise I really need a smaller front plate and probably a black badge too.

Re: Dum-Dums Cabby - kingy - 26-02-2012
