1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Andy annear - 13-05-2013 Hi everyone as per title really, when cold in the morning, fine to start, but when she fires up theres a fair bit of blue smoke for a couple seconds and also it sounds like shes running slightly lumpy. After a few minutes its fine, the smoke goes, also runs smoother. No problems when warm, and no smoke when driving. Cheers, Andy 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - RePT - 13-05-2013 I get this too. May be your glow plugs. Or maybe injectors... Ive recently had new glow plugs, changed fuel filter too. So im guessing its injectors from all that veg I ran lol RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Tom - 13-05-2013 When was the last service? RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Andy annear - 15-05-2013 shes been serviced regularly but not for about 18 months now i think, however she only has 40k miles so shouldnt run rough or struggle to start surely?? RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Tom - 16-05-2013 Could just be glowplugs. Might of only done 40k miles but it might not have been properly care for in that time. But most here are tuned so we seem to vary. I service mine every 6000 miles usually before. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Matt - 16-05-2013 Mine always does this, new glow plugs didn't slove it so thought f*ck it haha RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - puglove - 16-05-2013 (16-05-2013, 01:46 PM)Andy annear Wrote: ok thanks for information It isn't going to die any when soon if that's what your worried about RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Andy annear - 16-05-2013 right on ok, Thanks for all opionions ![]() RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - ashkid - 17-05-2013 mine does this had new glows soon as i rev it a little bit it clears withing seconds i have got the usuel leaky injector seals RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - jamesgmg - 17-05-2013 Had this EXACT same problem on my DW8, after going through the basics (glow plugs, injector test etc.), found it was valve clearances closed up. Now starts like new. I think they are meant to be checked every so often, but was never part of the service on mine. Even a peugeot main dealer missed this and failed to fix. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - Andy annear - 17-05-2013 Ok wouldnt personally know where to start with valve clearances myself, so i think after a service and maybe plugs this will be my next port of call ![]() Cheers RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - puglove - 17-05-2013 (17-05-2013, 01:57 PM)Andy annear Wrote: Ok wouldnt personally know where to start with valve clearances myself, so i think after a service and maybe plugs this will be my next port of call Be wary of that, my mate paid out a fair bit to have the valves re done........... and it didn't stop it from doing it RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - jamesgmg - 22-05-2013 (17-05-2013, 03:48 PM)puglove Wrote: Be wary of that, my mate paid out a fair bit to have the valves re done........... and it didn't stop it from doing it They can be checked quite easily. It's actually doing the job that's apparently a bit of a pain. I my case an exhaust valve wasn't closing, so it was a pretty sure bet that was the problem. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - darrenjlobb - 24-05-2013 Change the glow plugs Andy, will most likely fix 90% of the issues, if you buy a set ill whip them in when im doing the pump, changing to bosch pump will also most likely help alot. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - jamesgmg - 24-05-2013 If it was glow plugs wouldn't it run smooth quicker than "a few minutes"? I can start mine without any glow and it will run smooth in a few seconds. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - darrenjlobb - 24-05-2013 yeh it will, its most likely just retarded timing from worn pump etc, lucas pumps are never the best from cold, lower break pressures, less static timing, etc. RE: 1.9 lumpy startup from cold and blue smoke! - mattgreene - 28-10-2013 sounds like you have one glow plug that has failed and its running on 3 for a little while |
