RE: Project Babyliss - Scott - 07-02-2013

Quick with the progress as always, looking forward to seeing it painted!

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 07-02-2013

Cheers man, hopefully won't be too long!

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 11-02-2013

Got a bit more done on the boot on Friday:

Also, my bargain turned up. TSI's with LED indicator for £25

Aaaand finally

Quiet you

RE: Project Babyliss - Niall - 11-02-2013

Does seem a shame to be hiding it but oh well.

BTW what have you glued it on with? Be a shame if it all cracks the first time you slam the boot!

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 11-02-2013

I'm not really bothered about it being showwy to be honest, would rather I just be happy with it.

Tiger Seal, then it's fibre glassed the whole way around, not just filler, and the filler is flexible bumper filler... So I feel I'm giving it every chance to not do so...

RE: Project Babyliss - C.A.R. - 12-02-2013

The fun bit will be when someone else shuts your boot. They're incredibly light on an MX5, Natalie managed to dent mine by shutting it too hard! Luckily the spoiler I put on covered the little dent!

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 12-02-2013

Yeah, I've already had that issue with my other half lol

Not a lot I can do about it really, just hope for the best! If it cracks it cracks...

RE: Project Babyliss - Niall - 12-02-2013

Should of bolted it down with some counter sunk bolts then just filler over the bolts.

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 12-02-2013

It really doesn't move with the Tiger Seal, I used a lot lol

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 14-02-2013

Back from the garage...

Welded up, and they gave it a quick skim which I'll be sorting properly obviously.

So I set about making more holes to fit the battery clamp.

The negative was too long, and only just holding on as it'd clearly been pikey'd previously:

The supervisor...

...got bored

So that's held in for the time being, but I need to get another battery. This one has no vents and I'm not having it corroding again... MX5Parts want £100 + P&P for a new one. I think I'll just get another one from Halfords for half the price and vent that...

Also, it sounds epic with no back box! So now possibly working on a straight through replacement...

RE: Project Babyliss - Niall - 14-02-2013

Bosch Silver batteries have vent ports on them and they are the same price as a standard halfords one on trade. All you will need is a bit of rubber hose then.

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 14-02-2013

Cheers man, think I might go down there tomorrow and have a look after I've taken all the measurements. I was going to swap the battery from the '6, as it's got vent holes... but the terminals are completely different.

Project Babyliss - Jonny b - 14-02-2013

Looking good fella!

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 14-02-2013

Cheers Jonny Smile

RE: Project Babyliss - C.A.R. - 15-02-2013

Finally, it's solid again...

Not so keen on that style of TSI's, prefer those with the small indicator lense rather than the small LED bulbs. Will you be colour coding those?

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 15-02-2013

Yeah, pleased that's sorted...

Tbh I didn't set out looking for them as obviously I have other priorities... but they were mega cheap. I'm not too sure yet, will stick them on and see what I think.

Had the day off today, so decided to get shit done...

This is what the garage left me with:

I'll point out all I was doing today, was adding some protection/making it stand out less... so not aiming for perfection. The whole panel needs work and respraying so doesn't matter.

Sanded that down and stuck on some fibre filler:

Then went over with some P38 and primed:

After a bit of top coat. I was worried about the match, but needn't have. Perfect!

And done, for now:

I also set about sorting my battery properly, and decided I'm not paying rip off prices. So, trade card at the ready, trip to halfrauds. Got a battery I just picked with a measuring tape, some vacuum hose, 2 L-connectors and a T-piece, for £60.

DIY vented battery:

And in place:

Lastly I sanded down and polished up my sorry looking exhaust tip:

RE: Project Babyliss - Poodle - 16-02-2013

Looks a really tidy job considering it's just a patch up, nice work mate! Need to bother you into teaching me your skills lol.

RE: Project Babyliss - Dum-Dum - 16-02-2013

I want an MX5 now (not that I fit in one)

RE: Project Babyliss - Matt - 16-02-2013

Looking good, glad you finally sorted that quarter and secured the battery.
Just need to sort the gitd wingmirror Tongue

Cheers buddy! Haha, sure, although not sure I have much really!

You're good at bodging, fit a low bucket straight to the floor Wink

Yeah man, it's a lot better. Haha, on the agenda for tomorrow as it happens Tongue

RE: Project Babyliss - Fozzy - 16-02-2013

Things coming along nicely, glad to see the rust is sorted, it was a mess before. Looking forward to the boot being painted.

RE: Project Babyliss - Curt - 16-02-2013

Yeah it certainly was... Feels a lot better driving around knowing the battery is nice and scure Smile. Yeah hopefully get on with that tomorrow, but there's a lot of other bits (mirrors and boot lid included) that I want to get done also... Still need to get some boot carpet, but think I'll probably try and get an off cut of blue and cut it to shape.

RE: Project Babyliss - Fozzy - 17-02-2013

There's an mx5 at silverlakes atm that might have carpet in, but custom blue might look cool.

RE: Project Babyliss - Matt - 17-02-2013

I saw the most porno mx5 last night, baby blue, had a fapping huge gear changer, and some epic exhausts Big Grin

Because road legal racecar.

Didn't notice you'd do te exhaust too, looks so much better now Smile

Ah cool, cheers. I found a few on ebay, but still think that would be cool yeah. Just don't know how to shaped, think I'd have to go straight across the indent part instead of in it...

Sounds good! I've been thinking about baby blue as a possible colour if I do go full respray.

Yeah made quite a difference actually Smile

Finally fitted a shiny new horn push after plenty of faffing and effort (turns out the Prototipo is a strange size...):

Also did my mirrors.

Keyed and masked:

Specially fabricated mirrorpaintingholder (okay, it's a CD holder, a stick and some string):

Finally Tongue was the only bit letting it down IMO
