Repost from the 1.8 project... This is going on the 1.8 but im sure itll make its way onto the rallye once thats gone.

Well I collected a brand new piper stainless exhuast last night. Was bought for this guys track car but never fitted it. Same guy I bought the cooler off. It was up for £200 or offers on ebay so i offered 165 with 15pp. Ended up having to meet him half way to get it in time for the expo. These retail for £340 as far as I can see so looks like Ive almost paid half price. Not a pretty picture but there we have it. I just hope it fits over the magnex decat pipe.

Hopefully going to get this fitted tonight.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - procta - 26-09-2015

i have a piper system on my car, its a loud system I think, in fact I think I might bin it off and get a one made up, as its too loud for the road.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Eeyore - 18-12-2015

Another shiny to put on the pile... I believe there was a group buy on these two years ago on gti6 owners. Apparently there were two batches. The first batch had no washers which meant the carbon would crack if over tightened. The second batch had copper washers between the carbon layers to stopped cracking. This is the first batch with no washers however it was £40 from Chris Harris and before that it was Sam Bates and was on his black rallye. Its a small world.

Good find there mate! I want one of these at some point! And for £40 a good price!

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - ozonehostile - 18-12-2015

Ah so you bought it! (hate you)

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - RetroPug - 19-12-2015

Yeah I wanted that as well haha.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - 7057sam - 21-12-2015

Nice to see you have it I got it from some bloke off ebay breaking a car also got the carbon mirrors that had the same weave but dunno where they are now.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

After 5 pages the Rallye has moved from under the car port. Big Grin

First problem was the daft screw on battery terminal...bolted a quick release posi cable to it. Wink

Second problem was putting the window down...poking around the door card forgetting they're manual. lol

But more importantly, it started on the first turn and drove straight out to turn round for beam replacement. Kept it idling until the fans cut in and it didn't leak at all, water level is the same now as before I ran it... There is a heavy knock though, is that a tappet (seems a bit heavy) or a crank pulley or something else? It had been running for over 15 mins when I took the vid... Note the dryness, and the knock...

Anyway, half way there with beam swap, rust has slowed progress there but hopefully will get that soon. Smile

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Niall - 27-12-2015

Im putting money on that being a big end!

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

Hmm, lets hope not!! Confused

Will have to get some thicker oil if it is. Tongue

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Stef205 - 27-12-2015

remember i set that beam to match the 5 door -60mm iirc it may want raising!

mine first! Tongue

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

Hmm... I've never altered beam height, just swapped complete beams, that can be done once the beams on though right?

Also, the Rallye uses a brake bias valve, does the whole thing just get swapped on to the new beam? Oh, and the ARB wasn't fitted as there are 2, does that just get shoved in and bolted up?

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - procta - 27-12-2015

tom you knacked srowells rallye!

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

Lol, for once it's not me breaking stuff! Tongue

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Eeyore - 27-12-2015

Yeh the arb just gets shoved in tom and plates bolted on each end. I'll have to bring a wire wheel over to get them cleaned up.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Matt - 27-12-2015

When I swapped beams I pulled off all the pipes etc and swapped the bias straight over no issues

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Stef205 - 27-12-2015

dont pinch those bushes and seals!!!!!!!!!!! lots of grease and time!!!

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - luke306rallye - 27-12-2015

Its knocking not tapping though?

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Niall - 27-12-2015

Yeah thats not valves. A "tapper" is a very distinctive sound and thats not it

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Ben_w - 27-12-2015

New bottom end required there..... Might as well pull the engine to replace it and sort the bulkhead hole while you are at it. I'm an amature and can have an engine out in less than an hour once the front end is stripped off.....

Then strip the interior and sell me your seats Smile

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - cully - 27-12-2015

this is valves kissing pistons

oh if you want an engine i have one here we could do a deal on Wink

Edit, just listened on my laptop instead of the phone and it deff sounds like the bottom end.

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

Sure its nothing simple like the crank pulley? Confused

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - cully - 27-12-2015

more likely an inlet cam pulley

take the aux belt off and run it will prove the pulley

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Toms306 - 27-12-2015

Good idea, will try that. Smile

RE: SRowells Black Rallye - Niall - 27-12-2015

Crank pullies rarely knock Tom. They rattle sometimes but not knock.
