My dads 150 case broke on hinges as well. But his solution was to drill through the hinges and bolt them together.

The Halfords stuff is really good and is unbeatable at that price but the lack of 16mm and 18mm annoyed the hell out of me. I ended up spending a lot more and getting some Facom bargains off ebay:

I won't buy Halfords ratchet spanners for that reason. I think you can get repair kits for the 1/2" and 3/8" ratchets though.

To be honest, Halfords tools aren't actually that bad! The only problem i've had with mine is the 3/8th ratchet locks all the time and the adapter for the torx/screwdriver bits isn't magnetic, so you have to be careful not to drop then down in the engine bay! I think people think too much into tools and think that because it's got Halfords written on it, it will break and because it's got Snap On on it, it won't ever break. Truth be told, the only socket i've ever seen shatter was a Snap On 19mm...

The moving bits are covered in 90% stores, I know theyre not on paper, but if you just go in & play innocent, it'll work with most places. Had a complete ratchet exchanged myself.
I've had my trade card for 4yrs now & it still doesnt get tool kits as cheap as the sales, only worth trade disc on consumables really

Tasteful? Two things: a) it's a toolkit, ie the more tasteful it is the more man points you lose, and b) in what f*cked up reality is that orange tasteful..?!
On a serious note, bahco stuff is great in my experience, really well made.

Yeah from what I looked on eGay quickly, Facom and Teng were really expensive, those Bahco ones seem the best value; unfortunately they are not all chrome like the Halfords ones though that doesn't appeal to some tastes:p The thing is, Halfords has the lifetime warranty but I have heard of their torx bits snapping as reported on other threads, the thing you've got to ask is, are the other tools likely to break or not? It could be that they are just that bit better quality and that you would never need to replace them as you might with Halfords stuff, but it's impossible to tell. There is also this huge yank made tool set which I have been aware of for quite awhile:

I can confirm the Torx bits snapping, it's happened at least once to me
I can't fault them on returns though, they gave me another one straight away without questions.

It's because the torx but inside is hollow. Ours always snaps too

^^Because they are security drivers, not 'proper' torx bits. You can however purchase normal torx drivers or request for them when you change them

Nope, same problem with proper torx bits too. Problem is they're used in inappropriate places - on the HDi HP pump for example, where the tightened bolts are subject to the vibrations from something spinning at XX,000rpm and need to be done up tight enough to hold over 20,000psi of pressure, but then they go and put a shallow T30 head on top. Pretty misleading name really, "torx", can take about as much torque as a soggy rollie.

I will say, i personally dont think the halfords torx bits are very good. Even when using the correct size, they just dont seem to fit that well allowing space for them to round

That's the tool kit you can pick up from Costco. We've got one in work, I've used it a few time seems to be ok quality but nothing to shout about and unsure if it comes with any guarantees.

ha thats the kit i was given in work they were on offer in RS for £40 a few years ago
the sockets are 6 sided type and take some abuse the spanners the chrome flakes and cuts your hands
but its lasted 2 years and for free not bad

How can you tell they aren't all from the same factory in China though? Because I have been Googling up all the different brands and apart from a select few no brand seems to actually manufacturer their own tools according to what most people think.

Chances are they could well be from the same factory. Doesn't mean they are the same tools however.
