At my breaking point!
#1
Just tried fitting my auto dim rear view mirror using the guide on the forum (hant got a rain sensor) and I was wiring it to the centre lights well the little white box and I used the brown 12v and the yellow earth as said in the guide. I wired it all up fine but it started to burn and melt the wires Sad and now the car won't hold no charge from the alternator. Iv checked all the fuses and the lighting fuse was totally melted so Iv changed that and still no luck. Is there any chance at the has totally fcuked the alternator up?

you wasnt wiring it to the interior light was you? Its much much easier to wire it to the smaller map light.

Maybe you should consider investing in a multimeter!

SAM SAYS...

FAIL.

edit: was it solid yellow or yellow and green. Earth is yellow and green not just yellow! What you really want is a big fat (hopefully live) red wire.

It's not the interior I was trying to wire it to a white square box just behind the main interior light as you look at it. Yeah maybe I should.

You have to wire everything in your car through the starter motor if you stand half a chance of it working correctly. Preferably unfused, so it can keep current delivery no matter what...

N.B this is a lie

Hmmm!
yellow @ 6 is probably a perminant batt+
brown @ 5 is probably a 12+ ign switch which should connect to 7
yellow @ 4 where did that come from?

1-2-3 im guessing is the mirror

i suspect it started smoking as soon as you connected im guessing you have back powered 6 onto 5

if youve shorted the main batt+ you could of burned up the wires inside the loom
fingers crossed you havn't

Yeah 6 is perm bty
Your right with 5 connecting to 7
4 connects next to 7

The locking still works all fine. Just got to jump start the car now to see if everything else is fine

Youre connecting this to the RCL wiring because you dont have a rain sensor right?
