Just remember that you can't just buy a CCTV system and then use the evidence if something happens. A lot of the time in order for it to be used in evidence, the setup needs to be approved by a local authority.

It's actually possible to get CCTV hooked up via webcams to your computer, which will then monitor for movement and send a text/email to your phone with a photo of what's going on. Or for even more win, you can set it up with streaming video.

I've got one of these, cost me £40 when I got it a year or so ago from Saverstore.com http://www.xoprotection.com/swann-megaf ... ght-vision

They don't seem to stock it anymore but it can see 50m in the dark, pretty good quality too. I've got mine hooked up to a PC with a TV tuner and some free software.

just wire up the battery to the shell of the car so if they touch it they get electrocuted?

But seriously, this is taking the f*cking piss, it has to be targeted. Isn't it that dick who we were going to pay a visit too?

Do you want to park the car on my drive?

maplins dont list mine anymore it was £250
500gb dvr H264 network cctv system with 2 sony cameras

mine can be set up on the router and i can acsses it anywhere aslong as i can get on the net

one thing i will say though most say 17-20mtr cables for the cameras this is not long enough for my system here.
i have bought some passive CAT5 Camera CCTV BNC Audio Video Balun Transceivers these enable me to run power and upto 3 cameras on 1 cable remote to the dvr unit
so i can keep the dvr unit in the house and all the cameras are remote away from it

the balums are cheaper from ebay from china you need 2 per camera (1 each end of cable pair)

Right a few things here.

Your CCTV does not need to be approved by anyone to be used as evidence.

CCTV that only records on motion has been iffy in court in the past, theyd like full 24hr recording so you can prove nothing has been caused by something that didnt set off the motion detectors.

Ideally you need to be able to store it for a month (big hard drive)

Make sure you can burn the images to DVD/memory stick cos if you cant and say a murder happens in your street and the police notice you have a system they will seize the whole system even if that means your only home computer and hard drive with all your work on.

You can get very good systems out of maplain that link up to your computer.

Buy the best camera you can afford, one good camera is better than 2 shit ones.

Unless it captures a good facial image of a suspect (or distinctive marks like tattoos on arms if face is covered) the police wont do anything with it. I get copys of less than half the CCTV i view as its such poor quality you would never know who it was on the video.

Remembering that you need facial images to get people arrested there is no point mounting the camera up near the roof of your house so nobody can touch it as youll only get videos of hoodies. To get face shots you need to be at face height.

IIRC you need to put up a sign but theres no minimum size or owt so a tiny 1 inch square thing is fine.

If you want help with placement of cameras give me a shout, thats most of what i know as its quite a specialist subject and not something im very well trained in (unlike physical security like locks and stuff) but if you have any questions ask and ill see what i can do

I know for a fact that some of our systems on some of our sites at work have to be signed off. wether this is for a particular use I don't know or wether its a rule from that particular borough, it's still something worth checking.

private home owners can do almost what they want with CCTV but you have got to respect your neighbours privacy and others around
you do need to show a sign stating why you have CCTV and a means of contact for someone wishing to view your recordings which anyone can request to view buy law

i understand it is only business premises that need to notify the local council of the use of CCTV not private users

Also ive got a funny feeling that you only have to show a sign if it looks off your permises, if its your own private house you can do what you like

I'm thinking of somehow mounting a couple of cameras in the car Wink face height and all
