well i could check your exchange if you PM me your post code, see if o2 are LLU suppliers in your exchange.
Best way to check is perform a tracert to a website like.. here. Paste it in here. It will show me the route your connection goes so i'll be able to see if its via BT or o2's network.
If he is on Ethernet, as a quick test, you try using Ethernet into the router see if its any better. It could just be interference in your home area.
