ok so my hdi is drinking water , drove about 100 miles and its drunk nearly 2 litres. The water level light is intermitent as well but tends to not be on if im going above 70 and sits on if I go less than 50. am I right in thinking that if theres not enough antifreeze it could be boiling off a bit while driving and if i drive faster it cools down so the water isn't needed.
Have yet to find any leaks, though car was sat on driveway for good few days and didnt seem to be loosing any then.
Any common leak points/head gasket?

When you open the expansion tank is it empty? It could be the float inside

Is she overheating at all? Any sign of oil in the water/water in the oil? Have a look around the waterpump/expansion tank/main unions, see if there's any signs of leakage while running.

Been keeping an eye on the temp gauge, even when the water is way below min the temp doesn't get above normal levels . No mayo around filler cap and doesn't look like it inside . I'll get it running today and have a look in bay see if anywhere visable
the coolant pipes want to go hard when running right? think I remember someone saying something about checking how hard they go

Found fault, the blue bleed valve under where the 406 top pipe runs was loose and pissing it out through there guessing the pipe rubs on it when driving and loosened it off
