GI/WIW: Y plate Meridian GTi

Right getting hold of Sam's GTi Meridian.
Looking at putting a non tapping engine in it, along with cyclones, 40mm drop and completely back to standard apart from that. (red bonnet, standard exhaust, standard interior etc.)

Mileage is unknown atm as its had about 3 sets of clocks in it and the speedo wasn't working for a while, but It's around 110k on the shell, and will be fitted with a set of 114k clocks

Body work is very good, Good condition cyclones with good tyres.
Mot is around 10 months, not sure on tax though.

Pics from his build thread

Id say £1000 at the very most to the right person. As you can pick proper gtis up with the same spec (mods) and mileage for £800-1000, the only way i can see this fetching god money if there is some one out there who really wants a gti but needs a 5 door for kids/family. But i may be completly wrong. Just my opinion

^^^^ this I'm afraid, also comes with extra costs over a '6 like insurance with an engine change..

Y IS March 2001 (registered before that would be X)......so yeah it'll be emmisions based tax, however much that is for '6s. Smile

Apparently its £270. Speechless

Edit - Well thats for a '6 according to parkers...........but does the 'car' or the 'engine' choose the tax after an engine swap?

If it isnt registerd as having the engine conversion then id say £1000 plus as some chav will buy it for cheap insurance and tax. If it is tho id say anythink up to £1000

Even if its not registered the tax still won't be cheap lol - iirc it was a 1.4 before? Y reg 1.4s are still like £170 a year to tax!! Undecided

Still cheaper than a gti and insurance will be alt less hence if somone wanted to buy a 6 and had 1k to spend but couldnt afford the insurance and this was up for sale at 1k they would buy it. Totaly ilegal and insurance would be invalid i know but people do it :/

Yes but Tom that beats the 215 iirc.

It is still registered as a 1.4. Sell to a chav, cheaper insurance and cheaper tax job done

Hmm, I dunno how people can drive round with undeclared mods like that..........I mean its pretty obvious that isn't a 1.4 engine if they open the bonnet! Id always be worried about getting caught in it.

If the engine change is declared (I might do it before I sell it) it will be taxed on engine size not emissions, so £220 for the year or whatever it is.

Also Its cheaper to insure than a proper 6 fully declared on the insurance (Sam does have it fully insured as a 6 conversion also).

I'd be happy with a grand for it as it will leave plenty of profit still.
