Bought a set of toyo t1rs for my car about 1000 miles ago. As some know I had a slow puncture since the Christmas meet. Well finally went to get it repaired today and it's got a hole in the side wall  so thats 70 quid I need to find from somewhere just before Christmas.
Been driving 3 years and had 2 punctures on the two decent sets of tyres I've had. Never on the cheap budgets I've mainly had!!

Not a toyo. I'm not putting 1 budget on when I've got 3 almost new t1rs lol
Still it could be worse. Last time it was a puncture in my pilot sport 2. That was 130 quid to replace

Niall T1R in 195/55R15 is £53.50 on camskill.
That or start swapping to 50 profiles.

Place by us that vulcanises damaged tyres. Including sidewalls. Done one of the trucks at work, that thing regularly carries 3ton and its been flawless

It's a slit not a hole. Think I've caught it on that bloody single course wall in my front garden. Not only that but I would rather not use something thats been proved to be quite dangerous....
And I'm not going to start swapping to 50s because I will have different sizes across a axle then

swap to a pair of 50s you dingus, cost about the same as a single 55 and from camskill delivery is cheaper on 2 tyres than on one.

Still do-able. And since when has it been proved dangerous? They wouldn't be able to offer the service if it wasn't safe...

After you mentioned it to me the other day I looked into it and not only is it not an approved way or repairing tyres (thus not many places offer it), it also isn't very reliable and results in a lot more chance of blowouts. Fook that when your doing 80 up the m40!
Oh and don't want spec 2s. They look porn but I love my t1rs

Yep my mates owns his own tyre place, and he wont touch a puncture if it's any closer than 15mm to the edge of the tyre he don't like doing them for a start so likes to make sure he's covered

Don't think it's illegal but it's not approved by BS so if you have an accident because of it your up shit creek big time!

You just contradicted yourself there... If it aint illegal, then you wont be any trouble, as you would be doing a legal practice. See what im saying?
But like I said, im pretty sure it is illegal and even if it was, personally I would never do it. Im not sure about specific measurments, but as long as the mushroom is able to be flat, then its ok to repair, as soon as it starts going with the curve of the shoulder, then its too close

You could be because you can guarantee that your insurance will say that because it wasn't repaired using approved methods, there not paying out. We all know insurance companies are lady gardens like that.

Cold vulcanising of tyres was made illegal in the '70s, but since then hot vulcanising has improved greatly and now conform to British Standards BSAU159F, which states that the repair must see out the life of the tyre.
You google 'tyre vulcanising' and see how many thousands of results you get of companies offering it....
