Gti-6 engine not starting
#1
I left my 205 with fitted Gti-6 engine in the garage for about 6 months and now it won't start. It used to be the best starting car I think I've ever owned!

Things I've done so far:
1)Fitted a perfectly charged battery which will start a 306 Diesel no problem
2)Checked the fuel line to the rail which spurted fuel when I released the jubilee clip (I dont know where the pump is to give it 12v)
3) checked the spark to a coil plug lead and there doesn't seem to be any flashing while cranking ..
4) checked the voltage on the spark coils which seems to be only 10.5 and drops to 4.5 when cranking
5) Checked the cranksensor on its pins 1 and 2 which showed a resistance in the Kohms not the 400 ohm specced.
6)Checked the cranksensor on its pins 1 and 2 while cranking which showed a voltage of about 0.8v not the specced 1 to 3 v

Have googled and googled but haven't found anyone with this issue.

Please help!
Cheers

Sounds like you need to start with a new crank sensor. They aren't expensive. Not sure why it would randomly fail while the car was sat, but the plastic body was possibly damaged from 000's of heat cycles & the internal windings have started to corrode.

I'm also not sure whether lack of valid crank signal would supress the spark but seems entirely possible.

You echo my thoughts m’sieu. Crank sensors are not 2 à penny here though, so was hoping for something that is, to be the culprit. ?

Managed to find a 2nd hand CS and, with a few barked knuckles, the car now runs again!
Thanks very much for the support Mighty306
