Citroen ZX 1.9 TD Clutch Cable

Hi,

I’m in the process of changing the clutch cable on my 1994 Citroen ZX TD.

Whilst removing the cable at the pedal end, a small clip jumped off.

I removed the pedal assembly for a closer look, and try to work out the clips purpose?

It looks like it’s item 12 on the diagram.
