XUD9 NA bottom end strength
#1
Hi, ive got a 204000 mile turbo XUD9te with a tdo4 in my 405. Can anyone tell me whether i can use a non turbo XUD9 block, bottom end, pistons and rods and just swap the manifolds and sump or is the naturally aspirated engine too weak in these areas?

whats wrong with your engine?

non turbo has a fair few differences, cast not forged crank, no oil squirters, higher compression.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

The engine is fine at the moment but being 203000 miles im just trying to find out about what to do in the future to avoid situations like it dropping a valve which my dads old 205 did. My mate who built an xud has told me that if i used Hdi rods and some ARP head bolts i should be safe for a decent amount of boost. Any idea how much it would be for a valve kit as ill probably do that when ive got the engine out to swap the rods?

Valves are fine, stick HDI rods in. If your not going silly with boost then stock bolts will be fine too.

Lifting head all depends what turbo you have to be honest. modern WG blower puts heaps of backpressure on exhaust stroke lifts head. Likewise modern quick spooling WG turbo does the same. If your using oldschool laggy blower td04 etc then stock bolts will take it easy.

204k is nothing, if well serviced.

Thank you for your help lads. With regard to getting her to pass emissions for an Mot can i just tighten the LDA so that its coil bound and turn the fuel down a bit? And do any of you know where i could get a part panel to weld in to the rear left quarter or any scrappers that would let me cut out the metal that i need?

Lengthen your throttle cable so she hits peak RPM at around 3,900 and disconnect your boost compensator, she'll pass.
