any suggestions. as cheap as possible just got to clean it for paint this weekend. its completely bare, need to able to do at home with minimal tools and expense as its the boring part i don't like spending money on the boring bits

fair enough i use it all the time on turbos lol never really thought about it on a block to be fair.

Sounds really f*cking nasty but stick it in the dish washer if you have one.. it WILL Bring it up lovely and is reasonably easy on the engine's more sensitive parts..
Mrs BAsh might not be so easy on your sensitive parts if she finds out mind

Oven cleaner and degreaser from local car parts (or work stores!) works a treat with some pressure action too!

If there is an engine machinist nearby they will probably dip it in their tank for a couple of quid, that will do the best job.
They might charge as little as a couple of cans of Mr Muscle?
