So I've been in 306's for 9 years and had around 7 on the road but the time has come to replace my latest 306 with something different and here it is a 2002 bmw e46 330d touring, it has basically everything heated red leather, Cruise control, 5"screen with satnav/TV and alot more goodies I've probably not even noticed yet. I picked it up yesterday and its lovely to drive but the fuel consumption is pretty bad [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]
The estate that it's replaced

IMO that is the pick of the E46s, it's an utter sleeper and rather tunable although IIRC on an 02 plate not as powerful as the later 330d

No its the 184bhp not the 204bhp but with a remap it's still not sluggish. But it's a manual and has all the toys

Looks quite nice that tbh, and I'm not usually over keen on BMW's. Diesel is definitely an appealling factor though IMO. You say the fuel consumption is bad, do you mean in comparison to the 306, or worse than it should be anyway? If that makes sense...

It's bad compared to the 306. But it does have 2 more cylinders and a extra litre [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Ah well, not such a bad thing then, I'm sure you can get something half decent out of it with some "careful driving". Whatever that is...

No point having a big engine if you're gonna worry about fuel consumption.
Looks nice tbh, BMWs are really growing on me lately. I don't like the red interior though lol.

I'm not moaning about the fuel consumption if I was bothered I would of got a 316d [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]. I really like the red interior it's one thing that really attracted me to it.

I'm a fan, a BMW estate diesel with 6 cylinders would certainly be 1 of the cars I would look at if I was to not have a 306.

Pretty much my exact thoughts, but like Tom, BMW's seem to be growing on me at the moment.

The seats are obviously a bit Marmite but that looks pretty tidy and a nice spec - 3 litre, manual, touring and all the toys

How bad is "bad" economy wise out of interest on the 330d? Clearly it's not going to average over 50mpg, but which side of 40mpg is it?

you'd be surprised what they can do, I've had over 50 from my old 525, recently got 66 from a 2.2 Civic!
daily though, mine is mid 30's as its an old heavy auto moving through traffic.

Think the 204 version is a little better on fuel and a bit more mappable but that's about it. Tidy motor though, get a lot for your money just keep an eye out for the common faults

There's not a great deal in the engines tbh. With a map there not to far off eachother either way it's alot nicer than the 306 anyway

Ah I more meant the end power figure, think the 184's map to about 230, 204's map to about 260+ without much bother. But yeah, substantially more than a 306 either way lol

That Beamer looks lush mate. Love the wheels on your 306 tho! I've never seen yours, have you not got a thread? You keeping the 306?

The wheels on the estate were the wheels off my 205
Sadly the 205 is now being broke for parts and the wheels have now been sold so it's back on lazers. No project thread for the estate as it's completely standard bar a clutch and intercooler and a stage 2 map lol. The Mrs is keeping the estate for now and her 306 hdi cabriolet is being sold if anyone is interested.

They looked far better on the 205 than the estate tbh!
£1750 sounds a lot for a 14 year old 'normal' car, I guess that's the price you pay for quality though...probably explains why I've never owned a BMW.

I agree they looked far better on the 205.
Give me a older quality built car than a new plastic tacky new car anyday. Could be worse I could have a focus [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]
