Hi all,

What does a tapper actually sound like?

I didn't think mine is a tapper, in person I can't hear a tapping noise but I did a video, sent it a mate and his reply was tapper.

Hearing back the video the camera has picked up a loud tapping noise. I think it might be the injectors and it doesn't sound as bad when you're there.

The GTi injectors are loud. You will hear them tap on idle but when you rev it the sound of the engine will drown out the sound of the injectors. If its a tapper, the noise will get louder with more revs.

That's good then as it doesn't get louder.

Check your spark plugs are tight.
Usually the one closest to the cam belt and usually a quarter turn loose.

You need a Magnex... Can't hear anything at all in mine.

But seriously, they're not a 'silent' engine, injectors are surprisingly noisy for a petrol, and there is a bit of 'clatter' for want of a better word on all that I've heard, particularly when warm. Phone cameras seem to pick that up over anything else though! If you can't hear it in person, I doubt it's a tapper tbh.
