Come on, we must all have some story involving a stupid price, etc.

My latest one was when I just wanted a quick quote for an RX-8 as I've been considering it. Put all my details came out at £900 for a year...using the same details I tried it for my car, except with no mods, so just a standard HDI. Came out at £1200.

We all know it's bullshit how it's worked out but I just found it funny the price difference between a 231hp RWD and 90hp FWD. Not to mention the fact that my car with all mods, one being a swapped engine, is insured for ~£600. Guess I should ring Flux instead lol

Not a particularly insane price difference but it amuses me that my gti6 is about £380 to insure and the hdi dturbo £600.
Probably something to do with the statistics of each car involved in accidents over the years as the dturbo badge just seems to attract a certain type of person outside of the forum lmao

Had a insane quote for my scooby couple years ago, £27,000!!! Then when I got my 306 HDi thinking it would be cheaper to run, ended up paying more, somthing like £200 more, ended up arguing with my insurance as just couldn't work out how the hell a diesel hatch was more risk then a bloody Scooby!! But the tables have turned, I now pay £180 for a 220bhp Ibiza Big Grin
1 thing I remember when I 1st started driving, I wanted a lil Fiesta and my friend had an SI mk3, really liked it so did some quotes and found out the 1.6 was less to insure than the 1.4!!! Just don't understand how they work it out

A mate at work currently pays £250/yr for his vectra. Had a fault claim and his renewal is £2500!

I can insure an E90 330d for £600, or a Skyline GT-R for £550 and a Ferrari 599 for £900 , all 3 quotes from compare the market. It's like they just pluck the numbers from the air at random

To add to my opening post, this is from last year when I tried to get a quote on a comparison site for my car with mods. I think these were the only quotes and 153 wouldn't quote lol

Used to have a 1.1 saxo when i was 17, insurance was £3600 at the cheapest so thought for a laugh i would try a brand new Bently Continental GT and that was £7000 i thought that was cheap for a 17 year old. Decided i'd try an Evo but no insurers would quote me :/
Few years down the line age 21 self employed, got a w reg Escort estate 1.8 td (old mans car) cheapest insurance £7000 couldn't believe it :O
Now still with the 306 i've owned since 2011 and insurance is still £980 with Adrian Flux! (now 25 by the way) no convictions or crashes.

Its not boring at all. Ive had it since end of jan. Its broken down twice because of the wanky key system, brings up warnings like a woman brings up old arguments and drinks oil like cheap wine.

Otherwise, its a brand new free car so i cant complain Tongue

When I got rid of my 306 estate, I was on the verge of renewal with Flux, and the price they offered me off the bat was about £380 iirc, but obviously I chopped that in for the barge, and now I pay almost double that on a standard car policy. 8k business miles added to the policy, and thats about it.....robbery of the daylight variety.

I thought I knew the insurance game fairly well until January LOL
I had operated my 306 as a second car and therefore could not claim my NCD on it but I had subsequently built up 3 years NCD on it !
Anyway by Jan this year I had sold my 'main' car and my GF passed her test so we then insured her as main driver for the Polo and me for the 306.
We ended up both being insured with Tesco because they gave a good price for her !
Anyway when I phoned tesco to transfer my main NCD (9 yrs) to the 306 - they said 'would you like to transfer the 306 - 3 years NCD to your partner ? ! LOL
Sure why not Smile) I said and we got a £95 refund too ....result Smile.
Tesco seem to be quite relaxed about insurance if you live at the same address and (mostly) very friendly on the phone but I was very surprised when they offered the transfer of NCD !!

From a friend who used to work in insurance.

Alot of it is done on the local area, How many of that car is in the local area, and the crime/accident rate compared in that area on that car.

So if it is super common, expect to pay a little more, if it is rarer to see (i.e a cabby) then it should in theory be a little cheaper, that is what she said to me any how on how they tend to work out costings Smile

I pay £980 a year with Adrian Flux on my 1.4 306 and have been driving since 2008 (25 by the way), my mate who passed his test one and half years later (he's a year younger than me) and had 2 crashes, and obviously less no claims, has a focus st (very common in this area) and lives around the corner from me and he pays less than £700 with Adrian Flux aswel.
How does that work?

there could be more recorded thefts of the 306 compared to the Focus, or more accidents involving the 306,

its all about their formula they use to gain cash. It still does not change the fact we all pay through the nose.....

How does that work?

Is it a Mk2/2.5 ST? If so, they're still worth a hell of a lot, and have much better safety rating... Anyone can buy an unsafe (by todays standards) 306 for £300 these days and give no sh*ts about it which is when accidents happen...

The premium is worked out from a lot more than just the group number.

Yes the insurance game does not always run on logic,I only move companies when I have to - but I compare quotes every year (there can be no allegiance to insurance companies),usually after you have been with a company for 3-4 years then the premium goes up,so you shop around and then call your ins company to see if they will match it - sometimes they will sometimes they will not,if they will price match and I am happy with them then I will usually stay.
I always check online reviews before going with any particular company.

Your profession and particularly postcode make a fair bit of difference as well. If you live in da hood, your insurance goes up.

I'm 24 and doing relatively high miles my insurance on my daily was 390 for the year.

ye mk2, also my career and usage of the car has been changing over the 5 years of owning it but still doesn't budge from around the same price, was an electrician and employed by a company only used it to get to work and sdp, then became a self employed fire security engineer used it for business and sdp, then became employed as a fire security engineer still no real fluctuation.

mates a plumber and like i said lives round the corner still same postcode.

i have noticed the more my mates change/own cars the cheaper the insurances seem to be getting. Maybe thats something? ....
