I've noticed on some 306 hdi where the wiper motor is some have a gold small box amplifier thing with wires going into it?

My W reg hdi has it but V reg doesn't?

I think it's a suppressor for radio interference, I've only ever seen one across all the 306s I've had/seen though!

I've seen them either under the wiper motor mech area left corner or there on top of the wiper motor mech left corner area.

I can see mine just underneath a bit.

its the rear amplifier for the wiper motor.. you were spot on.. makes the bass from the rear wiper much more distinct.
