Lowering 60mm all round

So I'm gonna be lowering my car 60mm all round. I have nice wheels picked out and I'll be getting good quality tyres on there too.

I want to get a nice stance and good performance out of this and I've thought of going air ride but for now it's too expensive for me and I'd want it all round which is a problem at the rear.

Has anybody had any experience with these springs ?

And the plan with the rear is to refurb the axle and adjust the torsion bars to lower by 60mm.

I'm wondering which torsion bars would be a good upgrade from my standard 1.4 phase 1 ones ?

And which shocks would be good for my set up ? I'd rather go for adjustable shocks but I'm not sure which ones are decent quality.

that should see you a very good handling setup. any lower and the handling get worse for road/track use imo. i have mine at 60 wish id never done it

just a thought, would a beam minus it's torsion bars be a place to start for fitting a kit?

Thank you for the links dude  I'm trying to keep costs low on it so I wouldn't be able to purchase shocks like that, Would you recommend anything that's cheaper ? Also I'm gonna do the subframe mysef cause I want to learn more about them myself and my budget is limited for now haha. I'm looking at fitting 17" x 9" rota gtrd's which I'll need hubcentric pcd adapters for.
Am I mad thinking these will fit in my arches ? I've taken measurements but I'm not entirely sure

Just had a look at that there I'll definitely have to start drawing up plans for a custom kit like that.

Would the torsion bars not foul on something ? Or could I put them in place of the shocks ? And have another set up for shocks elsewhere that are more suited for air struts ? Or those two in one struts ?

afaik, the torsion bars run across the width of the car, either side of the beam,.
(to understand function, take a 30cm plastic ruler, hold both ends & try twisting it).
the shocks could foul the airbags depending on where you locate the bags.
it may be possible to lose the shox, I vaguely recall that air suspension may be self damping. (bike shox were- - )

Oh I know that trust me haha I've been in and around all of it and been learning all about them, Quite interesting really and one of my favourite parts of the car so it'll be a shame to see them go but I can't see them coping with what my needs will eventually be so.

Yeah that's what I was thinking and the bags could also foul my stupidly wide wheels hahaha, that's easier to fix and I think there self damping too which makes me think I can modify the mounts where the original shocks sit and install the bags there

welllll, if you're fabricating things, then mounts & brackets could be fitted where you have clearance (within reason, of course)
you'd only need to retain the ARB

Gonna go jack it up, take pictures and get size & weight specs for the rear so that I have everything there when I go to do it

GTi tb's and arb will be a huge upgrade. 20mm tb's from 18mm and 23/24mm arb from 16-20mm arb. Although if your on a tight budget a whole gti axle will be easier providing you know the history of it.

Personally i wouldnt lower it that far puts much more pressure on the moving parts, i for one wont warrant my axles if set at -60mm or over.

You're not going to fit 17" wheels, 9" wide in there without serious bodywork adjustment... And thats without 60mm drop.

That's a good idea actually and I'd get disc brakes etc with the gti axle too wouldn't I ? Everything that goes into this isn't going in unless it's perfect so if I get a used gti axle i'll be making sure everything's perfect on it first before it goes in.

How low would you say I can go ? Piggy recommended 30mm would be the max for good performance etc but I'm looking for nice wheel fitment too and I know it's often difficult to get a balance of the two but I'd like to be as close as possible to that balance
