Homologation Papers?
#1
i have had a look around the forum and a general look around the inter web, but before I spend £60+ of my hard earned cash with the FIA, does anyone have or know of any web sites that have the 306 Homologation papers? They have been very useful in the past with other cars and is always a good starting point when doing a project build......if you are building a rally rep.

which ones are you after? Peugeot Sport Club would be the place to look first, there will be separate paprrs got group n-and maxi afaik.

why would you want the papers though? they're well out of homologation but still not near Historic age.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

if your building for competition the MSA Yearbooks would be a good read also known as the blue book Wink

Thanks for that Smile the MSA blue book isnt half a hefty read, i remember trying to make sense of it about ten years ago.

This is where i get kinda torn, i am a sucker for detail, i like everything to be right, when recreating a rally car it puts you in a difficult situation. Do i build a faithful recreation of the Maxi when they were used as rally cars (at least as far as possible when it comes to parts that are either silly expensive, or near impossble to find) but that puts a stop on alot of current competition...although not all, or do i build a modern version of the maxi with current technology and abide by current MSA regs? I guess i will make my mind up as i go, i have to find a car first before i make decisions like that.

But that puts me in another dilemma......ideally i would want to start with the best shell possible, thats a bit of a shame though, i dont really agree with making a good example of a road car into a rally car, especially as they arnt so comon anymore, it seems like a bit of a waste, almost sacrilege Smile but if i start with one thats a bit battered and not so desireable it gives me alot more work to do, i dont mind doing bodywork or structural repairs, but i would rather not. My current project, i rescued a shell that had been stripped and was just about to be scrapped so i didnt mind so much, after all i wont be needing much of it.

homologation papers are only any use if you plan to build a historic car really.

306's arent rare yet, you can start with a 1.4 base model, you won't need any of the stuff on a standard gti6 anyway.

Homologation papers basically tell you what you need to do to a car to make it suitable for competition, there are different homologation papers for different groups, ie Group N homologation papers or Group A etc.
It also depends on the manufacturer as to the amount of detail contained within the papers, there must be a set criteria as many are very similar, but some have extra info in such as where to seem weld.

They are useful to me because they contain info such as, what model of car to start with, i only had a quick scan through some stuff i found on the internet, but i am sure it said that the 205 T16s started off as the 1.4 205 XS....then just slightly modified Big Grin Big Grin.   it also contains roll cage design, although this can be out of date as the FIA regularly revises what they consider to be a safe design and the minimum requirement changes....brake pipe layout/ design, brake sizes, suspension set ups, dashboard design, the list goes on, all helpful stuff when building a rally car or even just a rally replica depending on how far you want to go with it. But, if the papers are old, you also have to double check against the FIAs blue book, which contains specific (but not model specific) details on what you must have on every aspect of a rally cars design for it to pass inspection prior to a rally. Ie the number of bends you are allowed in a roll cage design, the thickness of the tubing, the material types allowed, but not the specific design needed for any given car.

I used the homologation papers for my GT4 roll cage which helped no end, although a good friend on mine rallies Celicas and has his own rally prep company, so he sorted most of it for me, all i had to do really was cut in the joints and weld it in.
