xud snapped timing belt
#1
Bought a xud today with snapped belt.
It has snapped the cam shaft.
What is the chances i can just change the cam shaft?

Valves will be bent if its been hard enough to snap the cam.. Just put a 2nd hand head on

Have a spare engine here. Dont know if to change head or whole engine

Whole engine is cheaper and easier... If its known good that's also safer than risking a potentially damaged one.

XUDs don't bend valves though do they? They're vertical like HDis so just break whatever is above them (rocker arms in the case of the HDi, not sure if XUD are the same).

I would disagree,

Drop camshaft and belt in it, and likely be fine...

There is probs a small indentation in 1-2 pistons from valves, but wont effect anything. very unlikely valves are bent in the XUD...will likely fire right up as if nothing happened Smile

8v with big valves like these are very resilient Smile

Could be damaged, but deffo worth a try before ripping engine out for the half hour it would take to fit these parts..and from my exp will likely be fine Smile

i have the old cam out and new one ready to go in.
do i use the donor engine camshaft brackets or original ones?

Use the brackets that come with the engine

Haynes manual is your friend

you need to check the clearances, haynes manual and a feeler gauge are needed.

you may need to change a few shims, use the ones from the donor engine if required, use the buckets for the donor cam too as they wear into them.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.
